Requirements
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the metal recycling industry, specifically in materials inspection, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, their properties, and common contaminants or impurities.
  • Familiarity with relevant measurement and inspection tools and equipment, such as scales, callipers, and magnet testers.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting and moving heavy objects.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and software for data entry and record keeping.
  • Comfort working in a heavy industrial environment and being exposed to various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing materials to identify grades, quality issues, contaminants, and non-conforming or hazardous materials.
  • Ensure materials meet company and customer quality specifications.
  • Coordinate the movement, sorting, and proper handling of materials within the yard.
  • Complete daily quality and site checks, including pile quality, truck inspections, and overnight loads.
  • Communicate quality concerns, downgrades, deductions, and required actions to Operations, Supervisors, and Commercial teams.
  • Direct inbound trucks to the appropriate yard locations safely and efficiently.
  • Support the training of Inspection Team members and external teams on quality, procedures, and safety.
