Requirements
  • FAA Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the appropriate category, class, and type ratings.
  • Graduate of the Army Maintenance Test Pilot Course or completion of an equivalency evaluation conducted by the Directorate of Evaluation and Standardization at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
  • Must be able to maintain an FAA Class II medical certificate.
  • Must meet all Army initial aircraft qualifications.
  • Must be qualified in the mission, type, design, and, if appropriate, series of aircraft.
  • Not less than 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command or pilot-in-command time, including 300 hours in a similar aircraft type.
  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of DCMAI 8210.1D as it pertains to flight operations requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Perform flight readiness inspections and complete maintenance forms and aircraft logbooks.
  • Flight-test the applicable aircraft to determine whether the airframe, power plant, accessories, and items of equipment function according to predetermined requirements.
  • Perform maintenance operational checks on the ground through engine run-up, aircraft taxiing, auxiliary power, or testing equipment to ensure that systems or components disturbed during inspection or maintenance have been repaired, reassembled, or adjusted satisfactorily.
  • Perform general maintenance operational test flights to prove the airworthiness of the complete aircraft.
  • Complete test-flight check sheets according to the applicable maintenance manual.
  • Perform limited test flights when necessary to prove the proper functioning of specific items or components.
  • After each test flight, perform a thorough visual inspection sufficient to detect deficiencies developed during the test flight and ensure they are corrected before the aircraft is released for further flight.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Dual qualification as an instructor pilot and maintenance test pilot is preferred.
