Will Flex and Skil thrive under new leadership? If you buy something through its links, ToolGuyd might earn an affiliate commission. Discover more Power Tools Flex seems dead in the water, after being ejected from Lowe's stores. Skil, which was also ejected from Lowe's stores, just launched a couple of cordless power tool "innovations" that I think miss the mark. In my opinion, both are excellent tool brands facing rough times. There are tools I don't like, but the engineering and design intent is often sound. Their parent company, Chervon, makes so much more than just what you see in Flex and Skil's cordless lineups. They aren't good at what they do, they're great at it. There's also EGO, which is a household name in cordless outdoor power tools. So what's the problem? Why have Flex and Skil both slumped? Amazon had a like of their Denali-branded cordless power tools, and they were compatible with Skil's battery system. What happened to that? Amazon erased it all, as if the tools never existed. Skil has a line of modular tool boxes. Where can you find them? Wholesale clubs, although it seems not at the moment. These brands are Olympic swimmers in a river pushing against them. They're doing everything right product-wise, and I say this despite my criticisms for specific tool launches, but the current persists. So how can they gain ground? As a reader pointed out in a comment earlier today, the head of Skil and Flex's parent company, Chervon Founder Mr. Longquan Pan is transitioning out of his role of CEO. The new CEO will be Joseph Galli Jr., former head of TTI (2008 - 2024). Under Mr. Galli's leadership, Milwaukee Tool, Ryobi, and others are incredibly popular tool brands. Mr. Pan will continue to serve as Executive Director and Chairman of the Board. Chervon is a publicly-traded company. Changes in leadership sometimes do more for investor optics than day to day operations or strategy. But there is no denying that Mr. Galli knows how to build both tool brands and leaders. From what I've seen, I don't think that Flex or Skil are doing things wrong from a product perspective. They pivoted several times, with appropriate strategic flexibility. Also from what I've seen, that didn't help. I don't think that Mr. Galli will automagically turn Flex into a company that can compete head to head with Milwaukee Tool, or Skil into a company that can take on Ryobi. But I am optimistic that he can steer Chervon and its tool brands in a better direction. Under Mr. Pan, Chervon is an excellent cordless power tool brand. Their brands are highly capable. But Chervon specializes in B2B. Do you remember the Craftsman AutoHammer? That was a Chervon product. So was the HammerHead tool that didn't seem to sell well at Lowe's stores over 10 year ago. Skil has one too - see It's Cordless Hammer Time - but it doesn't seem to have gotten the same attention as the Sears Craftsman version from so long ago. Hopefully Mr. Galli comes in and turns things around. I have seen what Mr. Pan has grown Chervon and its brands into. I think that Mr. Pan and Mr. Galli are going to be an unstoppable force, with complementary experiences and leadership outcomes. There's also the question of whether Mr. Galli will prompt for leadership changes and bring in new people. Milwaukee Tool turned things around with Mr. Galli at the head of TTI, although he certainly wasn't alone. Can one person turn things around and overcome the tool brands' inherent weaknesses on their own? I think the next couple of years will be very interesting. There is no telling what kind of impact Mr. Galli will have on Flex and Skil operations in the USA, but I'm willing to bet the outcome will be positive.

Through this partnership, Hoover major domestic appliances will include laundry, refrigeration and dishwashers, available later in the year. With over 100 years of heritage, this new agreement allows Hoover to significantly increase its footprint and become accessible to more customers. "We are thrilled to partner with Tempo as we expand our reach into Australia," TTi general manager, Jayson Owens said. "This collaboration will allow us to better serve our customers and grow our brand in the Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Island territories. It will also complement what we already do with Hoover floorcare in these markets." Mike Eagle has been appointed national sales manager to guide the re-launch of Hoover. Eagle was most recently sales and marketing director for Dreame ANZ for the past two years. Prior to that, he was category manager at Electrolux for four years. He has also held roles with Samsung, Newell Brands and Philips. Commenting on his appointment, Eagle said: "Hoover will be an extremely compelling solution to many consumers who know and trust the brand. It will be positioned in the value segment so will compete with many brands that consumers aren't familiar with, aimed at providing confidence and removing hesitation for those that search for quality products." Tempo general manager, Nigel Dent said, "We believe to build a brand that people know and trust takes time and investment. Many brands in market don't have either of these attributes, making it difficult for both the consumer and retailer. Tempo is excited about what we can do with this brand with our valued partners."
