Responsibilities
  • Interview applicants to discuss career planning and employment opportunities, requirements, interests, and procedures.
  • Identify, ensure completion of, and interpret appropriate career assessment tools to help students make informed career decisions.
  • Provide career and employment advising to students and alumnae.
  • Assist students with building a Career Development Portfolio.
  • Guide and monitor students' creation of a Career Development Plan, including a Post-Graduate Succession Plan.
  • Provide career coaching and enrichment to students and alumnae regarding the accurate interpretation, application, and use of career assessment tools.
  • Provide individualized support to help students secure and maintain internships, mentors, and employment, including job coaching during the first month of a new job or as requested by the student.
  • Refer students requiring Level 4 and Level 5 career assessments, or students with unusual problems, disabilities, or other restrictions, as appropriate.
  • Conduct career-planning and employability classes, workshops, and seminars, and participate in their planning and development.
  • Assist students with market research and employment forecasts for their chosen careers.
  • Work with the Internship Coordinator to connect students to experiential learning opportunities, including co-ops, internships, job shadowing, and externships.
  • Help coordinate career and employment events, programs, and community affairs.
  • Assist with overseeing the college online career and employment center.
  • Research and develop collaborations with employers and industries related to the university's Programs of Study.
  • Collaborate with Financial Counselors and Academic Advisors to align career plans with academic plans and career goals.
  • Orient users regarding the purposes and goals of college placement services.
  • Prepare announcements regarding examinations and career opportunities, briefs, advertising copy, and recruitment correspondence.
  • Partner with faculty to host employer and career-related in-class events.
  • Work with the Communications and Alumni Services Team to create and disseminate notices about workshops, job fairs, job openings, internships, cooperative training, job shadowing, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Track and maintain files and report on employment, knowledge rates, and departmental achievements through online career or student-success platforms.
  • Prepare reports for local, state, and federal offices regarding statistical information on employment-category oversupply and shortages.
  • Participate in required annual professional-development training.
  • May supervise student workers and interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An additional year of case-management experience is a plus.
  • A master's degree is preferred.
  • Three years of case-management experience in addition to the required experience is a plus.
  • Licensing in counseling, career development, or career coaching is preferred.
