About the job

Requirements
  • Strong professional experience shipping production web applications end to end; the posting says experience matters more than a specific number of years and describes several years as typical.
  • Comfort across the full stack, including relational databases, type-safe data access, backend services, and modern component-based user interfaces with thoughtful loading, error, and optimistic states.
  • Experience building and operating long-running or asynchronous systems, such as workflow engines, job queues, or event-driven services, including retries, idempotency, timeouts, and failures that surface days later.
  • Product instinct: consider users' goals and potential misunderstandings, and attend to details that make software trustworthy.
  • Strong TypeScript skills, or strong experience in a comparable typed language and willingness to develop strong TypeScript skills quickly.
  • Daily experience building with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
  • Genuine interest in complicated real-world processes, including prior authorization rules, billing codes, and payer-specific exceptions.
  • Comfort working in a four-to-six-person company, handling varied responsibilities and largely defining one's own benchmarks.
  • Willingness to work in the office five days a week and be available some evenings and weekends when critical issues arise.
Responsibilities
  • Build new customer tools end to end alongside the account executive, including workflows, integrations with payer portals and customers' business systems, and everything needed for customer launch.
  • Operate and maintain long-running Temporal workflows in production, including schedules, multi-day check-backs, retries, and exception routing to the appropriate person.
  • Build the product customers use daily, including runs and jobs, exception review, analytics showing automation value, quality reports, credentials and schedules, and a question-answering assistant.
  • Own the path from customer change request to verified fix, including how requests are filed and approved and how results appear in the changelog.
  • Make each tool explain itself in the customer's language through run messages, step descriptions, and write-backs that identify familiar systems and people.
  • Turn repeated customer requests into self-service product features.
  • Identify patterns across customers and tools and feed them back into the platform, agents, and development approach.
  • Learn customers' industry and processes well enough to challenge their descriptions when appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Customer-facing engineering experience, such as forward-deployed, solutions, or implementation work involving production code.
  • Experience with durable workflow orchestration such as Temporal.
  • Experience designing software for operations teams, including dashboards, review queues, and self-service configuration.
  • Experience in healthcare, revenue cycle, insurance, or another domain with dense rules learned from scratch.
  • Experience with browser automation, document extraction, or integrations with systems such as EHRs and CRMs.
  • A strictly typed, functional style using discriminated unions, exhaustive handling, and explicit state modeling.
  • Based in Los Angeles or willing to relocate there.

About the company

Docflow Labs builds an AI-powered outsourcing platform that automates back-office operations for DME/HME providers. It partners with operators to convert their manual processes into deterministic, auditable software automations instead of relying on generic prompts. The platform handles tasks such as patient intake, prior authorization packet preparation, document triage, and submitting to payers, with HIPAA compliance and full observability including logs, screenshots, and audit trails. A key feature is self-healing, allowing the system to adapt to changes in payer portals and rules while maintaining high accuracy. The company differentiates itself by emphasizing rule-based, auditable automation rather than purely generative AI, offering a 30-day pilot with a money-back guarantee to prove value. Its goal is to improve operational efficiency and reduce order cycle times so staff can focus on patient-facing work and exception handling rather than routine admin tasks.
