- A high school diploma or equivalent education (GED) or post-secondary education is required.
- Clinical training in an approved phlebotomy training program is required, or the candidate must hold at least a two-year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health-related specialty, or have two years of relevant specimen-collection, specimen-processing, and specimen-requisitioning experience, or have completed clinical training in a Northside Hospital laboratory as part of required high-school- or college-level clinical rotations, or hold a valid, verifiable phlebotomy certification.
- Applicants must submit to and pass a color-acuity screening test.
- Handle laboratory data collection systems and equipment to ensure laboratory test requests are properly ordered, cancelled, and charged for inpatients, outpatients, and institutional accounts.
- Perform specimen collection procedures for inpatients and outpatients.
- Perform non-technical specimen processing, preparation, and distribution for patient specimens.
- Ability to use and understand medical laboratory terminology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and design.
- Demonstrated public relations skills and service delivery training.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to understand and apply accurate procedures in specimen handling and clerical processing.
- Sufficient finger sensation and visual ability to locate patients' blood vessels.
- Effective communication and good written and oral communication skills.
