Old Republic holds pricing discipline: commercial auto rates up mid-teens, title agency revenue up 9%

Old Republic International said on its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held October 22, 2026, that it will keep strict underwriting discipline while expanding specialised insurance units. Commercial auto rate increases reached the mid-teens, above expected loss trends. Retention stayed near 80%, which chief executive officer Craig Smiddy said reflects a rational market. The company is also growing its vehicle service contract business through administrator partnerships. Smiddy said its results depend less on the property and casualty underwriting cycle. In title insurance, agency channel revenue rose 9% from a year earlier, despite higher mortgage rates that weigh on residential refinancing.
