About the job

Requirements
  • Five or more years in IT or software in roles requiring an understanding of how production systems are built, deployed, secured, and operated; qualifying backgrounds include systems administration, network engineering, DevOps, quality assurance engineering, solutions engineering, technical support leadership, and software development.
  • At least one year directing AI coding agents to ship production software, with examples explaining the instructions given, errors caught, and process changes made to prevent recurrence.
  • Two or more years of product ownership or technical product management, including backlog ownership, specification writing, prioritization, and accountability for outcomes rather than tickets.
  • Demonstrated discipline in verifying claims against the system rather than relying on documentation, and ability to describe finding and correcting a confident but incorrect source.
  • Fluency operating GitHub, including pull requests, continuous integration, branch protection, merge conflicts, and force-with-lease; a hosting platform such as Vercel; and a relational database such as Postgres. Must be able to read SQL and code differences critically without authoring code.
  • Clear, plain written English, including the ability to write concise rules, specifications, and one-page recommendations for executive decision-makers.
  • Comfort being accountable for work not personally written and escalating when a decision belongs to someone else.
  • Honesty, humility, integrity, respect, strong work ethic, passion for learning, comfort with autonomy, and eagerness to develop new skills.
  • Ability to use an Apple laptop and proficiency with Gmail, Google Docs, Slack, and internal CBT Nuggets software.
Responsibilities
  • Learn the CBT Nuggets business, including its buyers, their reasons for buying, pricing, and business data; use the data warehouse and CRM to verify figures independently.
  • Own a backlog for the assigned product surface and turn product intent into precise written specifications that AI agents can execute without guessing.
  • Direct AI coding agents through the full change lifecycle: specification, implementation, review, tests, documentation, pull request, continuous integration, and production verification.
  • Critically read every code difference and identify overclaims in an agent's summary before a reviewer does.
  • Operate repositories using branch protection, required checks, rebases, attestations, dependency advisories, environment variables, scheduled jobs, feature flags, and deployments.
  • Keep operator documentation accurate by updating it in the same change whenever behavior changes.
  • Turn lessons into durable, dated rules for agents and teammates, and retire rules that are stale.
  • Investigate production incidents using logs, metrics, and the database, then document what happened and how recurrence will be prevented.
  • Measure before making claims, date each reading, and record when an earlier reading was incorrect.
  • Reduce friction for people by building linked pages with buttons when a decision or labeling task needs human input, rather than providing an instruction document.
  • Work openly with teammates using shared rules and conventions, without private processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Next.js, React, Prisma, Postgres row-level security, OAuth, or a columnar analytics warehouse.
  • Experience evaluating AI models for production use, including A/B measurement, calibration, cost per output, and deciding when evidence does not support adoption.
  • Security and privacy judgment involving dependency advisories, supply-chain overrides, personally identifiable information boundaries, and risk acceptance with an expiry date.
  • Product marketing or editorial experience, particularly writing for IT Director or Training Manager audiences and verifying every claim against the product.
  • Experience in IT training, certification, e-learning, or assessment design.
  • Experience negotiating integration contracts with another engineering team.
