Requirements
  • Board certification in Radiation Oncology from the American Board of Radiology or an equivalent certifying body, with up-to-date continuing education.
  • An active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • At least five years of experience, excluding clinical experience.
  • An active American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • An NPI report printout.
  • An active Drug Enforcement Administration license.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
  • Ability to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat inpatient and outpatient cancer patients for palliative and curative purposes.
  • Develop and document individualized treatment plans using advanced modalities, including three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
  • Conduct patient consultations and pretreatment evaluations and obtain informed consent.
  • Monitor patients during treatment, adjust prescriptions as needed, and document care in the VA electronic health record systems, including Computerized Patient Record System and ARIA/Eclipse.
  • Participate in weekly peer review conferences, tumor boards, and quality improvement meetings.
  • Provide follow-up evaluations within 30 to 60 days after treatment and document treatment discharge summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with VA, national, and accrediting-body standards for radiation oncology practice.
  • Perform administrative duties, including quality assurance, staff meetings, and reporting incidents or adverse events.
  • Maintain and protect patient medical records in accordance with VA policies and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Provide on-call coverage during clinic off-hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
