About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Nvidia taps six suppliers to expand AI capacity, with $1.1B advance for US testing

Nvidia is working with six suppliers to expand capacity for its AI systems, aiming to lift substrate capacity 2.5x over the next three years. The partners are Amkor Technology, IBIDEN, King Yuan Electronics (KYEC), Samsung Electro Mechanics, Siliconware Precision Industries, and Unimicron Technology Corporation. Nvidia is giving KYEC a $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance to build US testing facilities, with high-volume production targeted for April 2027. IBIDEN in Japan also gets a multibillion-dollar advance, and its Ono Plant aims for three times current capacity. Chief executive officer Jensen Huang said "capacity is the constraint." Nvidia expects total semiconductor testing capacity to double from 2026 to 2027, with buildouts in the US, Taiwan, and Singapore. Nvidia also launched Minerva, an AIOps platform meant to spot faults in AI data centres earlier.

IonQ and Nvidia are quantum picks as market could hit $72B by 2035

Quantum computing could be the next big tech shift, with reliable systems possibly arriving by 2029. The Motley Fool's Keithen Drury names IonQ and Nvidia as two stocks that could pay off. IonQ is seen as the leading pure-play quantum company. It holds the world record by one key measure for accuracy, and it plans to launch a 256-qubit system next year, which would be among the largest available. Nvidia is not building quantum computers but supports those that do, through its NVQLink tool, its CUDA-Q software, and an AI model for error correction. Its latest quarterly revenue was $96.2 billion, up 106% year-over-year. McKinsey & Company estimates quantum computing could generate up to $72 billion in annual revenue by 2035, up from $4 billion in 2024.

Nvidia's 7.2% October drop fits Jim Cramer's buy rule, but AI financing risks loom

Nvidia shares closed at $221.97 on October 21, down 7.2% from their October 6 high of $239.24. That puts the drop inside the 5% to 8% pullback range that Jim Cramer says he waits for before buying strong stocks. Cramer said less than 5% is probably too early, while more than 8% may signal a problem with the company. Nvidia fell more than 10% at one point, closing at $214.13 on October 16, before recovering. The bigger worry is whether customers can pay for AI data centres. CoreWeave, which Nvidia backs, carried $51.61 billion in total debt. Nvidia expects fiscal third-quarter sales of $108 billion, plus or minus 2%. Cramer repeats his advice: "Own it, don't trade it.
