Draper is a nonprofit engineering organization that provides engineering services to government, industry, and academia, working as a prime contractor, subcontractor, or collaborator in consortia across domains from space to undersea. It tackles client needs by assembling interdisciplinary teams that turn complex concepts into working systems, building prototypes, verifying performance, and deploying usable solutions. Unlike for-profit competitors, Draper focuses on mission-driven, practical results and collaborates deeply with government, industry, and academia, using a mix of contracting and consortium participation to access diverse projects without relying on monetization. Its goal is to engineer and deliver validated systems that address the nation’s toughest problems through collaborative, mission-driven engineering.

Draper has received up to $7.3 million from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to develop methods for producing, storing and transporting cell-based biologic medicines at room temperature. The funding is part of ARPA-H's BioStabilization Systems programme, which has committed up to $87 million across four years. Draper leads a team that includes Likarda, Case Bioscience, CPSI Biotech, Fresenius Kabi, MiNK Therapeutics and the University of Colorado. The project aims to eliminate the "cold chain" requirement for biologics, which currently must be kept frozen at ultra-cold temperatures. This requirement makes such treatments expensive and accessible only at specialised medical centres. The team will work on stabilising cells for storage and reactivation, whilst developing automated processing systems for commercial-scale manufacturing.
Draper held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new microelectronics building in Lowell, Massachusetts. The facility will house the company's Integrated Microelectronics Production Advanced Chip Technology (IMPACT) Center. The 111,000 square foot building will feature advanced microelectronic design, production, and packaging facilities. It will create more than 100 highly skilled jobs, including technicians, engineers, and business executives. Construction is supported partly by state and local funding in partnership with the city of Lowell. The facility is part of the Lowell Innovation Network Corridor, an innovation ecosystem linking UMass Lowell with downtown Lowell. Upon completion in 2029, the IMPACT Center will offer manufacturing services from design to field-ready systems, focusing on high-mix, low-volume production for domains including microelectronics and precision navigation systems.
