Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
  • One to two years of related experience.
  • Certifications may be required depending on the testing performed; Engineer-in-Training certification is beneficial.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and perform work at heights.
  • A valid driver's license is required if driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary.
Responsibilities
  • Learn and perform building science and infrastructure-related testing and consulting services.
  • Perform field testing, including anchor bolt testing, bond testing, ground-penetrating radar, coring, chipping, sample extraction, sounding, and other testing, under the direction of senior staff.
  • Perform structural assessments, structural designs, and construction administration services, including requests for information responses, shop drawing reviews, budget updates, and owner meetings.
  • Collect, handle, and prepare concrete, masonry, steel, and wood samples using appropriate techniques and minimum sizes.
  • Apply testing techniques including anchor pull tests, carbon fiber testing, bond testing, ground-penetrating radar, sounding, and half-cell testing.
  • Develop knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, laws, and guidelines for structural work and understand their implications for study findings and conclusions.
  • Supervise field testing projects and junior staff performing structural assessments or construction administration services as directed.
  • Assist with project budgets, change orders, and invoicing, and communicate testing or budget concerns to the supervisor.
  • Communicate changing site conditions, determine appropriate investigation modifications with the supervisor, and implement them in the field.
  • Review drawings, requests for information, and other communications before issuance, considering financial and logistical impacts and providing timely responses.
  • Collaborate with staff and senior personnel on technical and administrative project issues and attend project meetings.
  • Interface with contractors and other site personnel and communicate changing site conditions to the supervisor.
  • Learn marketing and business development, build a client database, and maintain regular client contacts.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to prepare building science and infrastructure reports and relate field observations and test results to report conclusions.
  • Document site observations and submit daily field-work reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
