Requirements
  • HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering track engineering works within a rail infrastructure environment.
  • Experience, competence, or suitability for appointment as a Track CRE-C.
  • Strong understanding of Network Rail engineering assurance requirements and construction controls.
  • Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations, Work Package Plans, and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Experience reviewing engineering methodologies, technical queries, quality records, and handover documentation.
  • Ability to communicate engineering requirements clearly to site teams, subcontractors, designers, and clients.
  • PTS certification where required.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong technical leadership and engineering assurance capability.
  • Strong planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage technical interfaces across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Methodical and detail-focused approach.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the nominated Track CRE for allocated projects and work packages.
  • Provide engineering assurance throughout the construction phase of track infrastructure works.
  • Ensure construction teams have access to approved drawings, specifications, standards, and technical information before works commence.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to site teams throughout project delivery.
  • Identify, manage, and escalate engineering risks, constraints, and technical interfaces.
  • Coordinate engineering activities and interfaces with other rail disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Review construction methodologies, sequencing, and delivery plans for compliance and buildability.
  • Work with Design CREs, CEMs, and client representatives to resolve technical queries.
  • Manage technical queries, engineering issues, and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support engineering reviews, constructability assessments, and project readiness activities.
  • Review work package plans, inspection and test plans, risk assessments, and method statements from an engineering perspective.
  • Support possession planning, critical work activities, and delivery sequencing.
  • Attend site during key project activities to provide engineering assurance and technical leadership.
  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with approved designs, standards, and specifications.
  • Review inspection records, test results, and quality documentation to verify compliance.
  • Support testing, commissioning, handback, and project close-out activities.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and challenge unsafe or non-compliant activities.
  • Support investigations into engineering incidents, defects, and non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, designers, planners, commercial teams, and client representatives to support successful project delivery.

Arriva's €2.46bn Sales Post-Acquisition

Transport giant Arriva, based in Sunderland, reported revenues of €2.46 billion in 2024, the year it was acquired by US investors I Squared Capital for £1.4 billion. Operating profit was €127 million, with a pre-tax profit of €156 million. Capital investments totaled €285 million. Contract revenues were €1.76 billion, and passenger revenue was €665 million. The UK bus division had a turnover of €639 million, while the UK trains business reported €758 million in revenue.
