Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of industry experience in a data center or other critical environment facility, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to obtain Reliability Status screening from an authorized Government of Canada department or agency.
  • Must have five years of continuous Canadian residency and must not have lived or worked outside Canada for more than six months during that period, unless Microsoft determines the required clearance can still be obtained on time.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with data center business-unit and service-level policies.
  • Engage appropriate teams and resources to execute tasks or projects.
  • Manage programs associated with the area of responsibility.
  • Adhere to budget requirements, keep costs reasonable, and contribute to staying within budget.
  • Follow safety and security policies and procedures and immediately report safety or security issues.
  • Participate in the Root Cause Analysis process as appropriate.
  • Maximize Critical Environment availability with landlord partners at leased data centers and ensure optimal operational efficiency.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment at leased data centers, including MOP/SOP/EOP reviews, root cause analyses, failure mode and effects analyses, change governance, and risk mitigation.
  • Reduce high-impact and human-error Critical Environment incidents year over year.
  • Deliver cost- and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Support delivery of the data center's Emergency Preparedness and Response plans and act as an escalation point for facilities-related issues within leased data centers.
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule, and supervise Critical Environment audits and compliance verification as needed.
  • Ensure routine reporting to manage and analyze power, temperature, relative humidity, and service-level-agreement monitoring.
  • Establish and enhance working relationships and engagement with Engineering Groups and landlord partners, including contributing to monthly and quarterly business reviews.
  • Work with regional and global peers to share and build best practices across the data center portfolio.
  • Share best practices and assist others in learning the role, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide mentorship across data centers in areas of specific expertise.
  • Seek training opportunities that meet business interests and personal career goals and objectives.
  • Suggest ways to reduce maintenance risk and work with others to accommodate scheduling needs.
  • Suggest implementation improvements based on depth of understanding.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment by learning and adopting best practices.
  • Contribute constructively during team meetings and cross-disciplinary collaborations within the service team.
  • Remain accountable for end-to-end service quality, completeness, and customer experience, including availability, safety, security, and customer service, in alignment with management priorities.
  • Support escalation of issues to the appropriate owner.
  • Embody Microsoft's culture and values.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience in Critical Environment infrastructure, such as UPS, generators, or air handling units.
  • A bachelor's degree or technical college certification in mechanical or electrical engineering and/or services.
  • Experience working on large-scale Critical Environment projects.
  • Experience operating IT infrastructure, including servers, storage area networks, and networking.

Microsoft tops Accenture as AI infrastructure scales faster than consulting services

Accenture reported revenue of nearly $74.2 billion for fiscal year 2026, up 6.5% year-over-year, with net income of roughly $8.5 billion. The professional services firm serves approximately 9,000 clients globally with 814,000 employees. Microsoft generated revenue of nearly $331.8 billion in FY 2026, a 17.8% increase, with net income of approximately $133.7 billion. The company's net margin reached close to 40.3%. Both companies maintained a debt-to-equity ratio of approximately 0.3x. Microsoft's free cash flow reached nearly $67.0 billion, whilst Accenture's was roughly $11.6 billion. Accenture recently addressed a $25 million settlement with the Department of Justice regarding federal contracting practices. Microsoft faces securities fraud class action lawsuits involving AI and Copilot claims, alongside antitrust scrutiny and an IRS tax audit.

Excel Canvas uses Copilot to auto-generate reports from spreadsheet data

Microsoft is rolling out Excel Canvas through October, a feature that transforms spreadsheet data into polished reports with visualisations, metrics, and insights. The reports automatically refresh when underlying data changes. Users need access to Copilot in Excel and can customise reports using natural language prompts. The feature enters a crowded market of dashboard tools. The rollout follows mixed reception for recent Excel updates. Last week, Microsoft added a feature allowing multiple values in single cells. Earlier this year, a Copilot Dynamic Action Button faced user backlash, forcing Microsoft to make it removable. The company also abandoned the COPILOT() function in August, barely 12 months after its introduction.

LinkedIn ex-CEO Ryan Roslansky to leave Microsoft in 2026 amid executive departures

Ryan Roslansky, Microsoft's executive vice president and former LinkedIn CEO, will leave the company at the end of 2026. Roslansky, who joined LinkedIn in 2009 and became CEO in 2020, cited family ties to the San Francisco Bay Area as his reason for departing. He will remain as an adviser to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella through December. His exit follows a string of executive departures at Microsoft, including gaming chief Phil Spencer and Office executive Rajesh Jha. Roslansky moved into Microsoft 365 oversight earlier this year after Dan Shapero became LinkedIn's CEO. During Roslansky's six-year tenure leading LinkedIn, membership grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion users. LinkedIn posted 11% revenue growth for Microsoft's most recent fiscal year.

The Ottawa-based company converts organic social media conversations into statistically valid market research in as little as two minutes. Through askpolly's API, users can merge social data with sales information directly within Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, or Copilot. The platform filters out bots, influencers, and paid content before creating representative samples matched to census demographics, with underlying data refreshing every 24 hours. Anyone with a current Copilot subscription can download askpolly through Microsoft Marketplace. The platform is trusted by more than 200 companies for audience analysis, message testing, and sales forecasting.

Elizabeth Warren demands answers as Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft claim $96B in AI tax breaks

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding answers from Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft over $96 billion in lost federal revenue from AI-related tax breaks. Despite reporting massive revenues in Q2 2026, the tech giants saw significant tax reductions last year. Amazon paid $7.8 billion less in tax, Meta nearly $7 billion less, whilst Microsoft and Alphabet each qualified for roughly $19 billion in tax cuts. The companies are benefiting from provisions in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, including 100% bonus depreciation for AI data centres and expanded R&D tax credits. Corporate tax revenues have dropped 23% this year, largely due to these AI tax breaks. Warren and fellow lawmakers have sent letters to the companies' CEOs questioning the tax breaks and their lobbying efforts, arguing the costs have been imposed on American families through cuts to Social Security and other programmes.
