Requirements
  • Two years of college, totaling 30 semester hours, toward a social science or human services related degree, or a high school diploma/GED equivalent with two years of work experience in a child or adolescent care facility or closely related setting.
  • A current unencumbered Michigan driver's license with no more than one traffic violation in the last 12 months.
  • Candidates must pass a drug screen that includes testing for THC in order to be hired.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain facility security by monitoring residents’ activities, observing conduct, behavior and attitude, conducting regular room and bed checks, investigating incidents, and informing appropriate persons of incidents.
  • Interact with residents individually and in groups to discuss personal problems and facility rules and regulations, and teach proper conduct.
  • React to crisis situations such as unruly behavior and fighting, intervene appropriately, restrain residents when required for their safety, evaluate suicidal or AWOL behavior, and closely monitor residents exhibiting those tendencies.
  • Dispense medication to residents in accordance with physician-approved prescriptions, log and secure medications, provide basic first aid, assess injuries and illnesses, and determine the need for medical care in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Supervise residents to ensure compliance with facility rules, address noncompliant behavior by coaching and teaching approved theory and therapy techniques, and support youth with emotional and social development by encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Process resident intake, document required personal information, conduct personal searches, log and store prohibited personal items, and orient new residents and parents to the facility’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and program rules.
