The Opportunity:
As the Agriculture and Maintenance Manager, you will administer, manage, and oversee the day-to-day operations of three Crop and Soil Sciences farms and one Plant Pathology research farm located in the Pullman, WA area. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to, planning, coordinating and implementing farm management operations to support individual and collaborative research projects; maintaining and improving farm infrastructure through strategic acquisitions of equipment and improvements; ensuring the farms operate with a positive fiscal balance; supervising one or two permanent, civil service employees, along with various temporary hourly employees as needed; and organizing and executing field days, farm advisory committee meetings, and research planning meetings.
You will be working on a research farm that supports a range of plant, soil, pathogens and other researcher activities. The role requires extensive knowledge of farm management and skills in operating and maintaining specialized equipment and instrumentation required for modern farming using best practices and in a manner consistent with maximizing the research utility of the farms.
In this position, you must regularly exercise independent judgement and discretion, and demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration with Washington State University (WSU)faculty members and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)adjunct scientists from the Department of Crop and Soil and the Department of Plant Pathology

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement.
Monthly Salary: $5,485.73 - $8,000 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in related field and three (3) years of experience in managing an agricultural/industrial facility which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Positions require a valid driver’s license. May be required to obtain and maintain position specific licenses/registrations.
Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA)Public Operator’s/Pesticide applicators license at the time of hire.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Class A Commercial driver’s license at time of hire.
Must have the ability to work in an outdoor environment for an entire work shift with exposure to hot and cold weather conditions.
Experience as a technician in production and/or research setting with farm experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Inland Northwest farming practices, including crop rotations, crop growth and development, conservation farming systems, soil fertility, plant diseases, inspect pest and weeds and their management
Experience working with tools and equipment required for equipment fabrication and repair.
Understanding and experience in field research design and management including small plot equipment, prioritizing accurate data and sample availability. Optimize yield in bulk areas while prioritizing research goals in overall planning and training.
