Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the formulation, design, construction, and commissioning of projects overseen by the University's capital projects group.
  • Review the work of design professionals for alignment with University objectives and design standards, operability and maintainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide feedback and assistance to project managers and design professionals regarding all aspects of engineering design.
  • Facilitate commissioning of new and renovated systems, including reviewing functional acceptance test scripts, participating in field testing, interfacing with operations personnel regarding system operability and maintainability, and participating in systems training.
  • With oversight and support from the senior engineering team, manage engineering projects by retaining qualified outside engineering consultants and contractors.
  • Support preparation of work scopes and requests for proposal for project execution.
  • Oversee engineering consultants and contractors to ensure high-quality project delivery and conformance to established schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain a high level of involvement in project execution and present findings in oral or written format as needed.
  • Assist University operations staff in troubleshooting systems and provide solutions to operational problems.
  • Formulate projects for the replacement, upgrade, or enhancement of systems in support of the senior engineering team.
  • Review and suggest improvements to campus automation systems as appropriate.
  • Participate in budget development for projects and capital spending.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • EIT, CEM, or LEED AP.
  • Experience with building system design and operation, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, building automation, energy performance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with central utilities and cogeneration plants, including plant equipment, distribution, metering, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with commissioning processes from project formulation through turnover and performance diagnostics.
  • Experience managing consultant projects or teams.
