About the job

Requirements
  • Deep experience pre-training or post-training foundation models on large clusters.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks including PyTorch, JAX, and Torchtitan.
  • Strong systems skills in distributed training, FSDP/ZeRO, tensor parallelism, and pipeline parallelism.
  • Experience writing performant CUDA or Triton kernels for machine learning workloads.
  • A track record of running stable multi-week training jobs and debugging distributed training failures.
  • Understanding of cluster scheduling, networking bottlenecks, and GPU/TPU performance optimization.
Responsibilities
  • Design and execute large-scale training runs on the company’s clusters.
  • Build and optimize distributed training infrastructure across massive multi-node systems.

  • Develop data pipelines that process and filter trillions of tokens for pre-training.
  • Research and implement architectural improvements, scaling laws, and training optimizations.
  • Debug training instabilities, loss spikes, and convergence issues in long-running jobs.
  • Build tooling for cluster utilization, fault tolerance, and checkpoint management.
  • Write custom CUDA/Triton kernels to optimize critical training operations, including attention, normalization, and activations.
  • Collaborate on research that advances the state of the art in foundation model training.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience training foundation models at major artificial intelligence labs, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, Meta, or xAI.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Lightcone 0.1 Fast became default in May 2026 and Slack rollout started.
  • Northstar-medium-alpha shipped in 2026, giving Tzafon another production surface beyond browsers.
  • The July 2025 $9.7 million pre-seed funded compute, product, and go-to-market expansion.

What critics are saying

  • Browserbase Agents launched June 30, 2026, bundling browsers, search, identity, and proxies.
  • Tzafon now spans infrastructure, models, and agents, diluting focus against better-funded rivals.
  • Computer-use requests add 1,974-token overhead, pressuring margins and making usage expensive at scale.

What makes Tzafon unique

  • Rust-built WayPoint launches 1,000 browsers per second and scales past 10,000 sessions.
  • Tzafon open-sources browser infrastructure, unlike closed managed-agent platforms like Browserbase.
  • Lightcone unifies browser control, Slack workflows, and model APIs inside one stack.
