Requirements
  • Distinguished Engineer-level experience architecting and leading implementation of large-scale systems for investment platforms and analytics engineering teams in investment management.
  • Experience setting engineering standards and mentoring team members on software, infrastructure, security, data, and artificial intelligence engineering practices.
  • Experience partnering with Data, DevOps, Security, Infrastructure, and Application Development teams to integrate automated deployment and testing.
  • Deep understanding of data as a strategic asset, including data quality, structure, and governance.
  • Extensive experience with private equity datasets and a track record of shipping software projects to production.
  • Proficiency in Python or Java and full-stack development using TypeScript and Node, with experience in continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Experience developing scalable FastAPI-based microservices using GraphQL and gRPC.
  • Strong experience in data modeling, data engineering, extract-transform-load and extract-load-transform frameworks, data quality, and analytics using Snowflake or equivalent cloud warehouses.

  • Expertise building Docker or Kubernetes containerized applications, including Azure Kubernetes Service or Elastic Kubernetes Service.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence throughout the software development lifecycle for coding, validation, and code assessment using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code.
  • Practical experience developing tool-integrated agentic systems using the Model Context Protocol and frameworks such as FastMCP.
  • Practical experience developing and launching large language model solutions, retrieval-augmented generation architectures, and agentic workflows.
  • Experience with language understanding models, including OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models.
  • Hands-on experience designing autonomous and multi-agent architectures involving task planning, tool use, memory, and multistep reasoning, using agent orchestration frameworks and human-in-the-loop patterns for high-stakes decision workflows.
  • Experience architecting end-to-end document ingestion pipelines for intake, optical character recognition, layout-aware parsing, and normalization of PDF, Word, Excel, and scanned files, using solutions such as Azure Document Intelligence or LlamaParse.
  • Deep hands-on expertise building custom extraction logic with lower-level libraries such as Tesseract, Docling, PyMuPDF, Camelot, or Tabula.
  • Experience fine-tuning large language models for domain-specific extraction tasks and integrating agentic artificial intelligence workflows to automate and orchestrate extraction, validation, and structuring pipelines.
Responsibilities
  • Own the technical architecture for investment systems by translating investment department needs into scalable, maintainable solutions.
  • Lead feature delivery end to end by designing, coding, running, and maintaining pipelines, transformations, views, and test suites for applications and data validation.
  • Establish engineering standards and provide mentorship to team members on software, data, and artificial intelligence engineering practices.
  • Build and deliver artificial intelligence technologies, large-language-model-powered applications, retrieval-augmented-generation pipelines, and autonomous and human-in-the-loop agents grounded in proprietary data.
  • Apply artificial intelligence across the software development lifecycle using AI-assisted development, testing, and code review to accelerate delivery and quality.
  • Serve as a technical point of reference by reviewing designs and working with the Architecture Review Board to champion responsible engineering and artificial intelligence standards for investment technology solutions.
  • Partner with Platform Engineering and Quantitative Investment Science teams to align technology strategies, optimize platform capabilities, and drive investment-platform business outcomes.
  • Write production code regularly and derive architectural decisions from hands-on implementation experience.
  • Review builds, resolve complex problems, and champion engineering and responsible-artificial-intelligence procedures.
  • Partner with Data, DevOps, Security, Infrastructure, and Application Development teams to integrate automated deployment and testing.
Desired Qualifications
  • Python proficiency is preferred over Java.
  • Experience building and deploying production systems on major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with dbt, pipeline orchestration tools such as Dagster or Airflow, and Azure data tooling.
  • Exposure to Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure AI services, or comparable cloud artificial intelligence platforms.
  • Knowledge of financial markets, investment systems, or private markets, including private equity and private credit.
  • Experience with simulation-based and probabilistic modeling techniques such as Monte Carlo methods for forecasting, portfolio construction or allocation, and decision-support applications.
  • Hands-on experience building knowledge graphs, including entity and relationship extraction, entity resolution, and ontology or schema design.
  • A Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience.
  • A Master of Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 12 years of software engineering and delivery experience.
  • At least 5 years of technical leadership experience as a Distinguished Engineer, technical lead, or hands-on engineering director.

UC Investments sells $1bn private equity portfolio to HarbourVest. * August 19, 2026 * - 9:28 am The University of California's investment office has sold around $1bn of private equity interests to secondaries specialist HarbourVest Partners, providing another sizeable transaction for a market that has seen discounts widen amid renewed pressure on private assets, according to a report by Bloomberg. The report cites unnamed people familiar with the matter as reeling that UC Investments, which oversees roughly $190bn across retirement, endowment and cash portfolios, began the sale process earlier this year. The portfolio changed hands at a discount of more than 10% and includes interests in software and other technology-focused buyout funds, the people said. Campbell Lutyens advised UC Investments on the transaction. UC Investments' latest annual report showed that its private assets had a market value of approximately $39bn as of mid-2025. Private equity accounted for slightly more than half of that exposure.
