Requirements
  • The applicant must be currently enrolled at The New School University.

Responsibilities
  • Attend the administrative, pedagogical, and technological tutoring training sessions and review the digital training materials provided previously.
  • Conduct class visits of no more than fifteen minutes in each language class offered, introduce themselves, and explain how students can sign in to STARFISH for tutoring sessions and access the services provided, including the extra-credit benefit.
  • Review, explain, and guide students through course material such as grammar structures, vowel pronunciation, diphthongs, consonant-combination sounds, homework exercises, written and oral assignments, mini-projects, and exam material.
  • Assist students with the oral and written language used in class presentations, providing corrections and constructive feedback when needed.
  • Facilitate interactive speaking and listening exercises to build real-world conversation skills.
  • Contact language professors to participate in cultural class events that help students engage with foreign-language customs and social conventions.
  • Set up STARFISH office hours according to the university academic calendar and remove them during holidays; tutoring is offered only at the university.
  • Submit online timesheets for payment through the My-Day application.
  • Immediately report cancelled tutoring sessions to the student and program coordinator.
  • Inform the tutoring coordinator when students do not attend scheduled sessions.
  • Record every tutoring session in the semester tutoring Excel tracking sheet, including the date, time, and student name.
  • Promote language courses after completing the required tutoring training sessions.
  • Report pedagogical issues to the faculty tutoring coordinator.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior tutoring experience in high school or other institutions in the country or abroad.
  • Advanced knowledge of literature, grammar, writing, and speaking in the target language.
