Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Working proficiency with computer-aided design; Fusion is preferred and SolidWorks is acceptable.
  • Hands-on build experience from laboratories, clubs, internships, or personal projects, including machine shop tools, 3D printing, or fabrication.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation and demonstrating disciplined, reliable follow-through.
  • Being comfortable in a fast-paced, hardware-centric environment and willing to perform hands-on shop-floor work.
  • Being available to work on-site and able to start soon.
Responsibilities
  • Update and create Fusion computer-aided design models and drawings, bills of materials, and simple geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for thermal, vacuum, and handling subsystems.
  • Assist with prototype fabrication and assembly, including cutting, drilling, tapping, fitting, and basic machining.
  • Help select valves, fittings, heaters, and sensors for high-temperature and vacuum environments under engineer guidance.
  • Run tests, collect and clean data, and summarize results to inform design iterations.
  • Perform leak checks and pressure tests, and maintain organized logs.
  • Support vendor outreach, quotes, and purchasing, and keep parts and tooling organized.
  • Contribute to a safety-first culture and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to high-temperature or vacuum systems, including furnaces, pumps, and flanges, and basic thermal or fluids coursework.
  • Simple analysis skills, including hand calculations and spreadsheets; experience with finite element analysis or thermal tools is a plus.
  • Welding or tungsten inert gas familiarity and basic machining on a mill or lathe.
  • Using Python or MATLAB for data analysis.

Solcoa Industries develops and produces carbon-zero rare earth metals in San Francisco, focusing on Neodymium (Nd), Dysprosium (Dy), Terbium (Tb), and Praseodymium (Pr). Its main activity is the direct production and sale of these critical metals to manufacturers, aiming to reduce Western dependence on foreign-processed rare earths. The company uses a proprietary carbon-zero production method to create these metals, addressing environmental concerns and creating an alternative to traditional processing methods. This sets Solcoa apart from competitors by offering a North American supply chain that emphasizes decarbonization and industrial independence rather than relying on overseas supply. Its stated goal is to decarbonize and stabilize the essential rare earths supply chain for Western industries, strengthening domestic manufacturing and strategic materials security.

What believers are saying

  • Solcoa posted July 2026 output claims and a 500-tonne Alameda target by mid-2027.
  • Forbes valued Solcoa at $100 million in July 2026, signaling investor confidence.
  • Gigascale Capital and 8090 Industries backed Solcoa, supporting hiring and pilot expansion.

What critics are saying

  • MP Materials announced its Northlake 10X campus on February 26, 2026, scaling U.S. magnet supply fast.
  • Solcoa remains stealthy on PitchBook, limiting transparency around unit economics, customers, and execution.
  • A failed San Francisco scale-up or delayed Alameda ramp breaks its carbon-zero rare-earth thesis.

What makes Solcoa Industries unique

  • Solcoa claims 10 tonnes yearly NdPr metal from Solcoa One as of July 2026.
  • Forbes said July 2026 Solcoa built a California pilot plant in San Francisco.
  • Solcoa targets Western rare-earth processing, not just mining, directly challenging China-controlled downstream capacity.
