Requirements
  • Strong surety bond product knowledge and experience working with surety account management systems for complex commercial surety accounts.
  • Experience developing and managing a book of business and meeting profitability objectives.
  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic business plan, expand the surety portfolio, and maintain P/L responsibility for the region.
  • Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, regulatory guidelines, company policies, surety principles, financial risk assessment, and bond forms.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative analysis, and decision-making skills for assessing complex risks and providing solutions.
  • Leadership and team management abilities focused on coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe.
  • Ability to present and negotiate complex agreements with brokers.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and perform quality work within deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%.
  • At least 10 years of underwriting experience within the surety industry.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Drive profitable growth through strategic agency relationships and market development.
  • Build and grow strategic relationships and identify new business opportunities within the region.
  • Build out and guide a team of underwriters.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory guidelines, and company policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key business partners to support business growth and retention.
  • Collaborate with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders to address underwriting inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Implement underwriting best practices and process improvements to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to maintain underwriting accuracy and consistency.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications such as AFSB or CPCU.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships and managing stakeholder expectations.

Jeff Consolino named Core Specialty chairman as Ed Noonan steps down after six years

Core Specialty Insurance Holdings has announced changes to its Board of Directors. Ed Noonan has stepped down as Executive Chairman after serving since the company's 2020 recapitalisation. Jeff Consolino, the company's founder, president and CEO, has assumed the role of Executive Chairman effective immediately. The company has also appointed Bart van der Vlugt to its Board of Directors. Van der Vlugt is a principal at Sixth Street, which he joined in 2021, where he focuses on insurance sector investments including Sixth Street's partnership with Enstar Group Limited. Enstar, backed by Sixth Street-managed investment vehicles, provided Core Specialty with insurance companies and reinsurance agreements at the company's formation in 2020.
