Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Possession of a Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license or eligibility with American Nurses Association certification, or a Connecticut Physician Assistant license or eligibility.
  • Prescriptive privileges in Connecticut, including a federal Drug Enforcement Administration license and Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection license for controlled substances.
  • Ability to conduct informed consent procedures, manage multidisciplinary clinical research projects, and participate in recruitment and assessment of study subjects.
  • Proficiency in clinical research methodology, including Institutional Review Board procedures and trial protocols.
  • Strong clinical skills in patient assessment, care management, and prescribing for patient care related to research activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with research team members, partners, and collaborators.
  • Ability to function under pressure and maintain integrity when working with confidential information and making independent decisions.
  • Knowledge of health education theory and general clinical operations.
  • A master's degree from an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner program or graduation from a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the American Medical Association Council on Medical Education.
  • Prescriptive privileges or eligibility in Connecticut, a federal Drug Enforcement Administration license, and a Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection license for prescribing controlled substances.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties of the position, including occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds when transferring or turning patients.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care for General Cardiology and Heart Failure patients in an ambulatory setting.
  • Provide support for physicians as needed while practicing within the scope and boundaries of state regulations.
  • Examine patients to collect information about their physical condition and establish a clinical diagnosis.
  • Conduct physical examinations, provide treatment, formulate a health care plan, and counsel patients on health practices.
  • Encourage compliance with treatment plans through education, assessment of patient understanding, and regular patient monitoring.
  • Provide reasonable and prudent medical care, practice appropriate management, and use sound clinical judgment based on best-practice standards and evidence-based medicine.
  • Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and physical examination results.
  • Provide preventive health practices to maintain and improve patient health and prevent illness.
  • Coordinate patient care, including ordering appropriate laboratory tests, radiographic studies, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Advise patients on diagnostic test results.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval or as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
