- A Bachelor of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy is required.
- A current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy, or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina, is required; licensure must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Lead ambulatory clinical programs, formulary processes, medication utilization, clinical education programs, and personnel activities for ambulatory pharmacy services.
- Align ambulatory medication practices and lead clinical pharmacy programs to expand, integrate, and sustain medication management while improving patient outcomes.
- Maintain a professional image, lead by example, and provide excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues in accordance with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
- Promote the process approach and risk-based thinking; engage, direct, and support personnel in contributing to the effectiveness of the quality management system.
- Manage staff competency, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and supervision to meet patient needs, and adhere to hospital human resources and personnel policies, including PEP, FMLA, ADA, and EAP, for assigned staff.
- Participate in development, supervision, and coordination of pharmacy programs throughout ambulatory practices and programs.
- Review problems and incidents affecting efficient and safe departmental operations with supervisory personnel, and assist with scheduling, workflows, equipment utilization, and supply wastage.
- Participate in pharmacy operations and distribution activities as assigned.
- Develop staff to maintain a competent, efficient, and professional workforce; oversee in-service training programs to maintain and grow staff education in relevant aspects of drugs and drug delivery.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel and physicians to resolve problems, improve pharmacy service delivery, and plan for future ambulatory clinic medication needs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees and serve as chairperson when assigned.
- Perform the pharmacist job functions for pharmacists under the manager's oversight.
- Oversee medication management in the ambulatory clinic setting, including procurement, dispensing, storage, administration, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with medical staff and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy and ensure safe and effective medication use.
- Meet applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including state and federal laws.
- Register as Pharmacist in Charge with the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy for assigned locations.
- Stay current with evidence-based practices, guidelines, and regulations to guide clinical and operational decisions and support high-quality patient care.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to optimize the ambulatory medication formulary, utilization, and purchasing practices while balancing clinical effectiveness and fiscal responsibility.
- Oversee Ambulatory Pharmacy Residency Program operations and participate in precepting through longitudinal management and leadership rotations.
- Comply with American Society of Health-System Pharmacists preceptor requirements and complete required documentation for assigned rotations.
- Manage routine preparation and monitoring of pharmacy workload and productivity reports to achieve key metrics.
- Implement organizational changes.
- Foster innovation to achieve results across the pharmacy enterprise.
- Precept learners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
