Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
  • One to three years of relevant academic library experience is required.
  • Knowledge of current cataloging and metadata standards and practices is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MARC21, RDA, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings is required.
  • Experience with an integrated library system and library discovery platform is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple priorities are required.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues across the library is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide original and copy cataloging services for monographs, serials, electronic resources, theses, technical items, video, and other library materials using current national and international cataloging standards.
  • Create accurate, standards-based bibliographic records that improve the discovery, identification, organization, and accessibility of information resources.
  • Apply appropriate classification, subject headings, descriptive metadata, and access points to support resource discovery.
  • Conduct ongoing database maintenance, including identifying and correcting duplicate, incomplete, inaccurate, or inconsistent bibliographic records.
  • Manage and maintain catalog records for electronic resources and other online materials, ensuring accurate links and access information.
  • Work with acquisitions and electronic resources staff to ensure newly acquired materials are accurately represented and discoverable in the library catalog and discovery system.
  • Troubleshoot cataloging and metadata-related problems and respond to library staff questions regarding bibliographic records and resource discovery.
  • Provide support for the institutional repository.
  • Participate in university and library committees, professional development activities, and institutional initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties related to library technical services and resource discovery as assigned.
