About the job
- Experience building software for mobile robots or autonomous vehicles that shipped to real users.
- Strong experience with ROS 2, including Nav2, robot localization or equivalent sensor fusion, behavior trees, and launch and lifecycle management.
- Experience with Python and C++ on Linux and familiarity with embedded compute such as NVIDIA Jetson.
- Hands-on experience with GNSS/RTK, lidar, and IMUs, including practical outdoor localization challenges.
- Experience debugging robots in the field.
- Ability to explain robot behavior to roofing crews.
- Own the robot codebase end to end, including navigation, localization, multi-robot coordination, the iPhone interface, and systems running on the robots.
- Improve the reliability of centimeter-accurate RTK positioning, heading, and roof-edge boundaries.
- Build robot-to-robot coordination for following, queuing, and handoffs at a moving machine.
- Integrate GNSS, UWB, IMUs, load cells, buttons, status lights, and new attachments.
- Establish engineering discipline through a single codebase, field-matched simulation, tests, GitHub pull requests, and over-the-air updates.
- Spend time on roofs with crews, observe failures, and fix them.
- Use AI coding tools daily, including Claude Code and ChatGPT, to accelerate work.
- Experience with multi-robot coordination or formation control.
- Experience with UWB or other short-range relative positioning.
- Experience with Gazebo or Isaac Sim and continuous integration for robotics.
- Web front-end experience, including JavaScript, WebSockets, or rosbridge.
- Thermal or ruggedization experience for electronics in harsh environments.
- Construction or heavy-equipment background.
