Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited or otherwise recognized program or training entity in the occupational therapy assistant specialty field or content area taught; foreign credentials require transcript evaluation by NACES or AICE.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a United States Department of Education-recognized institutional accrediting agency.
  • Current Arizona licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapist.
  • Three years of practical experience in the assigned occupational therapy assistant program content.
  • Documented expertise in the teaching responsibility area, content delivery system, and teaching methodology.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the assigned teaching load per semester.
  • Maintain and demonstrate subject matter expertise, including distance education for assigned online courses.
  • Apply established teaching criteria, procedures, and curriculum to support student learning.
  • Use distance education teaching methodologies to drive continuous quality improvement.
  • Use the Learning Management System to deliver course content and provide formative feedback to learners.
  • Support curriculum design and partner with the program director to improve distance education environments and curriculum.
  • Monitor and track student retention using course attendance records.
  • Implement data-driven student retention improvement strategies to achieve course benchmarks.
  • Partner with the program director to improve instructional design.
  • Remain proficient in course or curriculum content, learning outcomes, and assessment activities.
  • Teach assigned courses within the maximum allowed contact hours.
  • Improve instructional quality by reviewing and using different teaching techniques, including distance education.
  • Assist with planning, developing, and maintaining program curriculum.
  • Evaluate students' progress toward course goals and promptly inform students of their progress.
  • Submit required program reports and forms to program or course managers promptly.
  • Maintain continuing education hours for renewed Occupational Therapist or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant licensure.
  • Maintain student attendance records and skill competency documents as needed.
  • Partner with the program director or department chair to resolve student appeals.
  • Attend faculty meetings as determined by the program director or department chair.
  • Document participation in professional development and in-service training for learning management systems, pedagogy, and education teaching methodologies.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, and the community.
  • Maintain compliance with employee handbook, program handbook, and department directives.
  • Coordinate and balance the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Maintain an inclusive college environment that promotes understanding and respect for a diverse student body, academic staff, and community.
  • Manage student retention using data-informed strategies to achieve accreditor benchmarks and college budget or metrics.
  • Participate in local student retention initiatives.
  • Manage communication processes to identify and respond to at-risk students.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding toward students and faculty from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
