Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A current and valid Illinois driver's license with the proper classification is required.
- Successful completion of a Paramedic program and maintenance of a current and valid Illinois Department of Public Health license are required.
- The candidate must be capable of completing continuing education and testing requirements in the assigned system.
- State of Illinois Firefighter Certifications are required for Firefighter applicants.
- Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check is required.
- The candidate must successfully pass pre-employment testing, including a Fit for Duty Physical, drug screening, and agility and lifting evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and assess patients' medical needs.
- Administer appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines.
- Safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
- Communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation regarding transport, equipment inspection, supplies usage, incidents, and other documentation inherent in operations.
- Demonstrate compliance with PSI and/or Department of Health requirements for continuing education and licensure through attendance and documentation.
- Maintain a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional, pleasant, and polite demeanor while on duty.
- Inspect and promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues, or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, supplies, and other matters relevant to safe and efficient operations.
- Assist with vehicle, equipment, and station maintenance.
- Participate in public education, public relations, public health safety programs, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention activities, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, instructing, and other activities benefiting the company, contracting communities, or general public.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Emergency Provider certification.
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, or International Trauma Life Support certification.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor certification.
