  • Must be able to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group and in an interfaith setting, and accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.

  • Must demonstrate spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP's ministry values; incorporate Christian values and beliefs into daily activities and job duties; have a fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible and its proper application; attest to saving faith in Jesus Christ; and actively participate in a biblically based church.
  • Must interact professionally with diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse groups, establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships while providing customer service, and make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Must demonstrate oral and written communication skills to communicate and interact effectively with leadership, colleagues, employees, and families, and maintain emotional stability when coping with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
  • Must be able to analyze information to define and follow up on problems or objectives, identify solutions and solve problems, interpret policies and procedures related to the position, and keep others informed.
  • Must demonstrate computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software, internet, email messaging, and web-based software applications, and be able to understand and learn new technology programs.
  • Must have an active state driver's license and state-minimum auto insurance in the state or states where clients are served.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must speak Spanish bilingually.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interact with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Make brief visits to company worksites regularly, usually weekly, to build relationships of trust and friendship with employees, motivated by the chaplain's Christian faith.
  • Visit employees or immediate family members wherever care can be expressed and help given, including hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provide confidential pastoral discussions, as appropriate, for employees and immediate family members on issues including family matters, divorce, serious illness, care of aging parents, death and grief recovery, parenting, financial situations that may include debt discussions and budgeting, and other life issues related to financial stress or other personal issues; provide referrals and coordinate specialized assistance for employees or family members with specific needs.
  • Assist in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees or immediate family members, including follow-up support and encouragement during the grief period.
  • Make jail visits to employees and immediate family members, as needed.
  • Work with companies to notify families and other employees of deaths and serious injuries, and encourage those impacted by tragedies.
  • Provide post-termination care for laid-off or terminated employees to foster a smooth transition to another work environment, as needed.
  • Facilitate, but not lead, spiritual enrichment activities when appropriate.
  • Provide literature and other resources, as appropriate or requested, to assist employees with life issues.
  • Represent companies to clients or customers when ministry services are appropriate, including serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals.
  • Participate in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.
  • With permission from the Executive Director of Operations, respond positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by company executive leadership within the scope of the Letter of Agreement between MCHAP chaplains and the company.
