Requirements

Responsibilities

Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues and answer questions to support a positive customer experience.
Model and share customer service best practices with team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits such as proactively offering help, identifying needs, and serving customers until satisfied.
Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Under pharmacist supervision, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy, and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Perform duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including using pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information accurately; retrieve, count, and pour pharmaceutical drugs; verify medication accuracy and check for possible interactions; and assist pharmacists with scheduling and workflow maintenance.
Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies and procedures concerning pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
Follow the Walgreen Co. Good Faith Dispensing policy during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Register related sales at the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required; assist customers in locating products by accompanying them to the over-the-counter aisle when possible.
Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
Correct and resubmit manual claims for third-party prescription service programs in a timely and efficient manner and perform other clerical duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; maintain knowledge of company asset-protection techniques; and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged prescription drugs.
Assist and support the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in analyzing and improving pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance data, including reviewing prescription key performance indicators with the Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
May assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples and providing other clinical services as required; assist pharmacy staff in coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, through medical-provider outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums to enhance growth opportunities.
Support execution of the Pickup program.
Maintain the Pharmacy Department's interior and exterior by ensuring adequate supplies and keeping the area clean, neat, and orderly.
Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the correct use of processes and tools to improve pharmacy efficiency.
Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or maintain state-required certification or registration.
Attend training, complete learning modules requested by the Manager, acquire continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including current news and developments.

Desired Qualifications

Prior work experience with Walgreens is preferred.
Basic math skills, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications, are preferred.
Basic computer skills are preferred, including starting up and shutting down a computer, using a mouse, starting and closing programs, switching between programs, saving files, printing documents, and accessing information online.
Knowledge of store inventory control is preferred.

Operations

Under the supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow.
Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customer to OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.
Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
Leads Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
Assists and supports Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in analyzing and seeking to improve pharmacy financial, customer service and inventory performance data; reviewing Rx KPIs with Store Manager and Healthcare Supervisor.
May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required; assists pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.
Supports execution of Pickup program.
Assists with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance

Training & Personal Development

Maintains PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated PTCB or ExCPT training program and/or state required certification/registration.
Attends training and completes PPLs requested by Manager and acquires continuing education credits. Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.

External Basic Qualifications

•   PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
•   One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
