Quantinuum has secured $100 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce's CHIPS Research and Development Office. The grant, finalised under the CHIPS and Science Act, will support quantum semiconductor manufacturing for large-scale, fault-tolerant trapped-ion quantum computers. Quantinuum is the only company using trapped-ion architecture to receive this CHIPS R&D funding. The company will partner with GlobalFoundries to fabricate next-generation ion traps and control electronics using advanced 300mm wafer technology. It will also collaborate with Monarch Quantum to develop lasers and optical components for quantum systems. Dr Rajeeb Hazra, Quantinuum's CEO, stated the award validates the company's leadership in trapped-ion quantum computing whilst strengthening America's position in this strategic field. Quantinuum employs over 800 people and operates multiple generations of trapped-ion based quantum systems.

Trapped-ion quantum hardware developer Quantinuum (NASDAQ: QNT) and integrated energy firm Aramco have executed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the LEAP technology conference in Riyadh. The agreement establishes a framework for preliminary technical onboarding, knowledge exchange, and benchmarking quantum modalities to identify industrial use cases across energy production and digital transformation workflows.
