Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma, General Educational Development certificate, or equivalent.
  • Must pass a criminal background check according to Oregon state requirements and Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable vehicle when transportation duties apply.
  • Access to a smartphone for documentation, communication, and timekeeping.
  • Ability to obtain cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid certification; training is provided if needed.
  • Willingness to complete the required annual training of at least 24 hours.
Responsibilities
  • Build a person-centered supportive relationship with the individual and provide care aligned with the Individual Support Plan.
  • Promote autonomy and choice by supporting the individual in exercising rights and making decisions about their life.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and toileting, and help with household tasks such as laundry, dishes, vacuuming, and tidying.
  • Collaborate with the individual, family, and support team to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Facilitate community participation by helping the individual plan and attend social, recreational, and appointment-related activities according to their preferences.
  • Support budgeting, shopping for groceries and other items, and meal preparation when needed.
  • Administer medications or support medication protocols after receiving appropriate training.
  • Identify and report incidents or changes in the individual's health, behavior, or circumstances, and maintain required documentation in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Provide transportation in a personal vehicle when necessary for errands, community outings, or appointments.
  • Adapt to varying schedules, including day, evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least six months of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or one year of caregiving or related experience.
  • Comfort with animals when applicable.
  • Empathy, patience, and a person-centered approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing environments and schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate with families, support teams, and community partners.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to make thoughtful real-time decisions while ensuring the safety, dignity, and rights of supported individuals.
