Its products and services include a wide catalog and in-store experiences, including full-scale “Outdoor World” retail locations and the Tracker Boat line (boats with motors and trailers) sold as complete packages. The company grew from a small tackle shop into a nationwide retailer through catalogs and immersive stores, and expanded its footprint by acquiring rival Cabela’s, nearly doubling its physical presence. Unlike some mass retailers, Bass Pro Shops emphasizes an experiential shopping environment and outdoor lifestyle branding tied to hands-on gear and boating. Its goal is to be the leading destination for outdoor enthusiasts in North America, making outdoor recreation accessible and enjoyable while growing its retail network and brand presence.

Bass Pro to close store in East Memphis.

Bass Pro to close store in East Memphis. September 1, 2026 Bass Pro Shops is closing its store in East Memphis after 24 years in operation in a rare store closing for the retailer. The 83,000-square-foot store, at 6140 Macon Road, was the retailer's first store in the Memphis region. It's now up for sale as its lease is set to expire, according to local reports. The location's last day open will be September 26. The closing comes as Bass Pro opened its second store in the Memphis region in 2015 at the Pyramid in downtown Memphis, right on the banks of the Mississippi River. Bass Pro told the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the closing was tied to a lease expiration and a strategy to consolidate Memphis operations under one roof at the Pyramid flagship store. No layoffs or job eliminations are expected, as staff at the Macon Road store will be offered similar roles at the Pyramid. Image courtesy Bass Pro
