  • At least 8 years of professional software or reliability engineering experience, with strong command of at least one major programming language; Java 17 or later is preferred, including concurrency, collections, and modern language features.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, quantify, and mitigate operational and technical risk in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Proven ability to coordinate stakeholders and drive resolution across geographically distributed technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience operating high-availability production environments, including service-level indicators and objectives, error budgets, on-call, incident command, and post-incident reviews.
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services, container orchestration with Kubernetes or Docker, and infrastructure as code.
  • Working knowledge of AI models and AI-assisted engineering tools, including governing AI agents, critically assessing their output, and maintaining quality over AI-generated work.
  • Experience building event-driven and distributed systems, including messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka, delivery guarantees, and resilience strategies.
  • Strong software development lifecycle and automation practices, including version control, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, automated build, test, and deploy workflows, and code quality tooling.
  • Solid observability practices, including application instrumentation, distributed tracing, structured logging, and metrics-driven operations.
  • Ability to navigate, understand, and debug large unfamiliar codebases, with or without AI assistance.
  • Strong risk acumen and ability to apply it to change management, capacity planning, and resilience testing.
  • Experience with high-availability, latency-sensitive systems, production support, chaos engineering, capacity planning, or load and performance testing is highly valued.
  • Experience with Spring Boot, gRPC or Protocol Buffers, integration and orchestration frameworks such as Apache Camel or Spring Integration, and pipeline or adapter patterns such as retries, dead-letter queues, and error isolation is highly valued.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes or Docker, JVM tuning for containerized workloads, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Helm is highly valued.
  • Experience applying AI models to operational use cases such as anomaly detection, log analysis, automated remediation, and agentic operations is highly valued.
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and service-level objective tooling is highly valued.
  • Experience with data modeling, SQL or NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and performance optimization in latency-sensitive systems is highly valued.
  • Experience with enterprise security patterns, authentication protocols, mutual TLS, secrets management, and certificate rotation is highly valued.
  • Equities, post-trade, or financial services experience; trade lifecycle concepts; position management; reconciliation; and multi-system migration experience are highly valued.
  • Experience with asynchronous or non-blocking I/O frameworks such as Vert.x or Netty, multi-region or business continuity planning architectures, and open-source contributions is highly valued.
Responsibilities
  • Define and defend service-level objectives, error budgets, and reliability standards for critical trading services, keeping risk in view.
  • Identify systemic risks before they materialize, automate repetitive operational work, and strengthen platform resilience.
  • Coordinate incident response by mobilizing engineers, domain experts, and stakeholders across a globally distributed organization, and communicate status to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Orchestrate AI coding and operations agents to accelerate root-cause analysis, remediation, and automation while maintaining the quality and production fitness of generated work.
  • Design, build, and operate high-availability, multi-region, cloud-native services with security and comprehensive observability, including metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging.
  • Establish and manage service-level indicators, service-level objectives, and error budgets; lead blameless post-incident reviews and turn findings into durable engineering improvements.
  • Lead incident response for latency-sensitive, high-throughput trade lifecycle systems by diagnosing issues, coordinating cross-functional responders, and communicating status to stakeholders.

  • Partner with engineers, domain experts, and global stakeholders to understand production processes, challenge assumptions, and drive modernization.
  • Use AI agents across the software development lifecycle and operations to understand large codebases, generate production-quality automation, and accelerate delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Java 17 or later is preferred.

About the company

Goldman Sachs advises companies and governments on mergers, raises money for them by selling their stocks and bonds, and trades securities for big investors such as hedge funds and pension funds. It led Ford Motor's 1956 stock market debut, then the largest share sale in US history. Traders buy and sell stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities for clients and lend them money, while bankers earn a fee on each deal they advise on or arrange. Its asset and wealth management arm invests for institutions and wealthy families and charges fees based on the money it oversees. The firm was founded in 1869, when it began brokering short-term IOUs for New York merchants, and it is based in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Trading drives the boom: stock-trading revenue hit a record $7.42 billion in the June 2026 quarter, up 72%.
  • Pay is climbing: compensation rose 20% to $11.5 billion in the first half of 2026, while staff grew 1%.
  • A Goldman stint opens doors: alumni Rishi Sunak, Mario Draghi and Mark Carney rose to lead Britain, Italy and Canada.

What critics are saying

  • AI is costing jobs: Goldman's October 2025 AI plan came with a "limited reduction in roles" and slower hiring.
  • Expect five office days a week: Goldman reaffirmed the rule in 2023, and its CEO calls remote work an aberration.
  • Stock awards have lost value: shares fell 23% from July 15 to October 8, 2026, versus 18% at Morgan Stanley.

What makes Goldman Sachs unique

  • Traders outearn Goldman's famous merger advisers: trading made 57% of first-half 2026 revenue, versus 8% from advice.
  • Goldman is Wall Street's top merger adviser: it earned $4.6 billion advising on 2025 deals, versus JPMorgan's $3.1 billion.
  • The top prize is still partner: though public since 1999, Goldman named just 95 partners from 46,000-plus staff in 2024.

Goldman upgrades CoreWeave to Buy with $106 target despite 56% share slump

Goldman Sachs upgraded CoreWeave from Neutral to Buy on October 19, 2026, even as it cut its 12-month price target from $139 to $106. The new target implies a gain of about 73% from the October 16 close of $61.39. CoreWeave shares have lost nearly half their value since August, partly because yields on its 2031 and 2032 bonds climbed to around 15%. Analyst Gabriela Borges argues investors have overestimated the effect of future borrowing and underestimated the profit from new data center contracts. CoreWeave rents Nvidia chips to firms such as Meta and OpenAI. It had locked in about $104 billion in future revenue by the end of the second quarter, but posted a $626 million net loss that quarter. Ark Invest bought about $25.8 million of the stock in mid-October.

Tokenized stock trading surges overseas to $11.31B on Robinhood Chain as Goldman, Microsoft object in US

Tokenized stock trading is growing overseas while major US companies resist it at home, according to Bitwise Asset Management's latest quarterly report. On Robinhood Chain, tokenized stock volume rose from $526 million in July to $2.21 billion in August, then to $11.31 billion in September. Tokenized equities were also the fastest-growing category on Solana. Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's, Western Digital, and Alphabet have objected to tokenized versions of their shares trading on OKXICE, a venue launched by crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange. Sixteen companies have now objected. The US Securities and Exchange Commission's innovation exemption lets companies opt out. OKXICE co-chairman Andrew Cuomo said many companies would "wait and see" before taking part.

Goldman Sachs vs Bank of America: why the investment bank is the better 2026 buy

Bank of America and Goldman Sachs offer two ways to bet on financials in 2026: steady retail banking or market-driven investment banking. A Motley Fool writer favours Goldman, which has beaten both Bank of America and the S&P 500. In fiscal 2025, Bank of America's revenue fell about 0.5% to nearly $191.6 billion, with net income of nearly $30.5 billion. Goldman's revenue fell 1.4% to about $125.1 billion, with net income of close to $17.2 billion. Goldman's debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 4.9, against nearly 1.2 at Bank of America. Goldman's free cash flow was negative $47.2 billion; Bank of America's was nearly $12.6 billion. Bank of America looks cheaper on forward P/E and P/S ratios. It also faced a $1.2 billion regulatory charge in 2026, while Goldman reached a $500 million shareholder litigation settlement.
