Requirements
- Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used to repair and maintain a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, as well as relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of oils and lubricants needed for different makes of equipment.
- Knowledge of small-engine equipment repair.
- Knowledge of diesel and heavy-equipment maintenance and repair principles.
- Knowledge of workplace safety principles.
- Skill in cutting and reshaping metals to fabricate parts.
- Skill in operating hydraulic and electrical test equipment.
- Skill in safely operating tire equipment.
- Skill in operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, a valid Georgia driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Completion of specialized training in the field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- One to two years of experience, typically obtained through an apprenticeship, internship, or similar position.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized troubleshooting and diagnosis of equipment and trucks.
- Perform corrective maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks, including diesel engines.
- Repair brake, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning, transmission, and electrical systems.
- Perform field repairs as needed.
- Repair or replace tires.
- Acquire parts and equipment needed to repair and maintain equipment.
- Make welding repairs and fabricate parts.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Complete required reports and maintain vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
- Perform related duties.
