About Quora:
Quora’s mission is to grow and share the world’s knowledge. To do so, we have two knowledge sharing products:
Quora: a global knowledge sharing platform with over 400M monthly unique visitors, bringing people together to share insights on various topics and providing a unique platform to learn and connect with others.
Poe: a platform providing millions of global users with one place to chat, explore and build with a wide variety of AI language models (bots), including GPT-4, Claude 3, Gemini Pro, DALL-E 3 and more. As AI capabilities rapidly advance, Poe provides a single platform to instantly integrate and utilize these new models.
Behind these products are passionate, collaborative, and high-performing global teams. We have a culture rooted in transparency, idea-sharing, and experimentation that allows us to celebrate success and grow together through meaningful work. Join us on this journey to create a positive impact and make a significant change in the world.
About the Team and Role:
Our small engineering team works on challenging problems every day. We have a culture that’s rooted in constantly learning and improving, and our engineers are encouraged to think big and experiment with new ideas. Using continuous deployment, we quickly see our changes in the product and make fast iterations. Our engineers focus on creating polished products and writing high quality code by designing APIs and abstractions that are extensible and maintainable. As an engineering team, Quora also highly values development velocity, and invests heavily in improvements to tools, abstractions, and frameworks to empower developers to move faster and achieve more with a lean team. Everyone on the engineering team has a huge impact on our product and our company.
The Platform team focuses on increasing the productivity of product developers (including product engineers, designers, and data scientists) by creating tools, frameworks, and abstractions that simplify their work. This team’s projects span a wide range, from developing libraries of reusable UI components and enhancing frontend debugging tools to accelerating code deployment and optimizing site performance. There are numerous interesting and impactful challenges in improving our frontend frameworks and systems within this modern architecture, encompassing both our AI product, Poe, and the core Quora platform.
In this role, you’ll be working with other members of the team across a variety of projects to improve efficiency of product developers, with a focus on supporting the Poe product. You’ll work closely with Poe product teams to understand pain points and build tools to increase their velocity. You’ll be working mainly with Python and modern Javascript frameworks like React, NextJS, GraphQL and Relay. This role is great for full-stack generalists who enjoy empowering other developers, eager to learn and execute in different parts of the stack.
Responsibilities:
Develop, maintain, and build tools that make Poe and Quora product developers (engineers, designers, data scientists) more efficient
Contribute to building and maintaining reusable UI components used by developers
Collaborate closely with product teams to identify pain points and understand developer workflow challenges
Drive proposals and initiatives to address developer challenges and adopt new frameworks
Minimum Requirements:
Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora’s “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or a completion of coding bootcamp or equivalent work experience
4+ years of experience working with large scale codebases and systems, particularly web applications and frontend architecture
4+ years of experience building APIs that are used by large teams
2+ years of experience working with React and GraphQL
Experience with NextJS, Relay or similar modern web framework
Preferred Requirements:
Experience and strong interest in building tools to support other developers, or client-side performance. This may include contributions to open source projects
Interest in working full-stack
Passion for building reliable, performant consumer internet products
