Transcarent launches bundled payment model for cancer therapies, offering $150K savings

Transcarent has launched a bundled payment model for bispecific T-cell engager (BiTE) and CAR T cancer therapies through community providers. The model aims to reduce costs and improve access to advanced cancer treatments, which typically cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and are often limited to academic medical centres. The initiative expands Transcarent's Centres of Excellence programme by partnering with high-quality regional and community providers. This allows patients to receive treatment closer to home whilst giving employers more predictable healthcare costs. According to Transcarent president Snezana Mahon, the model could generate savings of up to $150,000 per case. The platform connects members to leading oncology providers across academic medical centres, NCI-designated cancer centres, and community-based care sites for complex cancer services including surgery, radiation, infusions, and immunotherapies.

The company works through directly contracted pharmacies and offers platform-based pricing, where every client receives identical pricing for medications. SmithRx reports average pharmacy benefit savings exceeding 20% and average per member per month savings of $37 across its client base. The partnership enables real-time pharmacy guidance within Transcarent's broader healthcare navigation experience, connecting medication decisions to related health resources and employer-sponsored benefits.

Transcarent partners with Bluespine to tackle $300B healthcare fraud with AI-powered payment integrity

Transcarent has launched a payment integrity category in its Experience Store through a partnership with Bluespine, an AI-driven health technology company. The initiative aims to help self-insured employers detect overbilling and reduce waste in healthcare spending. Fraud, waste and abuse account for an estimated 3% to 10% of total US healthcare spending, representing over $300 billion annually. Unlike traditional audits that review limited claim samples, Bluespine analyses 100% of medical and pharmacy claims using AI to identify overpayments, policy violations and billing errors. The platform supports both prepayment review and post-payment recovery, validating claims against employers' specific plan documents, coverage exclusions and negotiated rates. Every identified issue is documented with clear evidence tied to plan language or billing guidelines, enabling streamlined recovery without disrupting member experience.
