Requirements

A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
Candidates must comply with the employer's drug and alcohol program because this is a safety-sensitive position.
The role requires frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of more than 50 pounds with assistance, as well as bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, and standing for long periods.
Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times.

Responsibilities

Assist with the installation of various types of foundation piling at active construction sites, including pile placement, equipment and materials movement, and coordination of ground activities.
Take direction from operators and/or field supervisors.
Perform Swamper duties safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Complete a Field Level Hazard Assessment and take required steps to manage field-level risks.
Learn and apply measuring techniques related to piling.
Apply required markings to products, including pile identification numbers, customer order numbers, heat numbers, and pile locations.
Conduct daily equipment and rigging inspections and continuously inspect tools and rigging for defects.
Monitor equipment for leaks and potential malfunctions.
Use hand signals accurately as learned from operators and crew.
Understand and measure embedment and/or setting depth.
Complete paperwork needed to support continuous installation operations.
Receive materials accurately, maintain organization, and complete associated paperwork.
Manage material layout proactively.
Spot equipment mobilization effectively.
Assist with basic maintenance tasks, including shoveling tracks and identifying equipment lubrication points.
Keep the site clean and tidy to prevent injuries and property damage.
Identify ways to increase production and potential savings.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience working on construction worksites is preferred.
Experience operating machinery is an asset.
Knowledge of industry-related tools is an asset.
Field safety tickets including First Aid, H2S, CSTS, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance are assets.

Description

Helical Pile Solutions is a deep foundations contractor with over 30 years of experience in the industry, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. (“Java”). Java staff have over 50 years of experience building some of Canada’s largest electrical infrastructure projects. The Swamper is responsible for assisting with the installation of various types of foundations piling on active construction sites. This role is integral to pile placement, the movement of equipment and materials and the coordination of ground activities.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities

Takes direction from Operators and/or Field Supervisors.
Exhibits pride in workmanship and an ability to execute all the duties of a Swamper safely, accurately and efficiently.
Comprehends the importance of dependability and consistency in a high-performance team environment.
Understands the importance of worksite safety and manages field-level risks by undertaking the required steps of a Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA).
Learns required measuring techniques related to piling.
Applies the required markings to the product (such as pile identification numbers, customer order numbers, heat numbers and pile locations).
Conducts daily equipment & rigging inspections.
Constantly monitors equipment for leaks and potential malfunctions.

Requirements

Education / Experience

Completion of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) is preferred.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Experience working on construction worksites preferred.
Experience operating machinery is an asset.
Knowledge of industry-related tools is an asset.
Field safety tickets including First Aid, H2S, CSTS, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance are an asset.
This is a safety sensitive position and will require candidates to comply with HPS drug and alcohol program.
