Requirements
  • A Master's or Bachelor's degree from a therapy program is required.
  • Current Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist licensure in Pennsylvania or New Jersey, based on the work location, is required.
  • CPR certification obtained within the last six months is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or an equivalent provider is required upon hire or within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of required affiliations is required.
  • The therapist must be able to assess, treat, and communicate appropriately for the age and developmental needs of patients.
  • The therapist must be able to sit for up to 90 minutes, stand for 30 to 45 minutes consecutively, manipulate machine dials, lift and move patients up to 200 pounds, and push or pull patients weighing up to 200 pounds.
  • The therapist must be able to occasionally stoop, bend, squat, crouch, kneel, and reach above shoulder level.
  • The therapist must have tactile sensation for assessing muscle spasms, textures, and skin temperature, as well as hearing sufficient for normal conversation and call bells and vision sufficient for general vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients, develop treatment plans, and implement treatment programs.
  • Fabricate splints, including walk-in splints as needed.
  • Communicate and document patient-related information in a timely manner.
  • Document patient evaluations, care plans, and treatment progress in medical records, including Medicare recertifications and discharge planning.
  • Interact with physicians and promote the practice regarding treatment protocols, splinting, and patient status.
  • Supervise students and observers as assigned.
  • Assist in developing and implementing department programs.
  • Share clinical knowledge and new techniques to improve patient care.
  • Adjust work hours to accommodate fluctuations in patient load and department needs.
  • Participate in at least one community event and one speaking engagement per year to promote hand therapy and the outpatient facility network.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper release of information.
  • Comply with network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety and follow reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrate the network's service excellence standards in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate performance improvement in clinical care and outcomes, customer and service improvement, operational systems and processes, and safety.
  • Use resources effectively and efficiently while maintaining financial responsibility and accountability.
  • Comply with network and departmental attendance and dress-code policies.
  • Participate in continuing education and experiential learning with the intent of becoming a Certified Hand Therapist.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Hand Therapist certification is preferred.
