Requirements
  • At least 7 years of experience in data science, applied science, or a technical product role with progressively broader scope, including accountability for turning analytical work into a deployed capability.
  • Experience in biotech, pharma, or a related life sciences industry, with a strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle.
  • Ability to evaluate whether analytical or AI/ML methods remain valid at exhaustive scale and make build-versus-buy decisions about tooling.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to engage deeply with data scientists and engineers on methods, architecture, and trade-offs, including recognizing when statistical approaches break down outside a single case.
  • Experience directing or coordinating technical teams, including engineers and data scientists, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders through technical credibility.
  • Ability to discuss diligence findings, asset valuation, and scientific risk with senior leaders.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and define scope in a new function.
Responsibilities
  • Own the strategy for scaling Formation's data science work for asset acquisition and diligence, including deciding which one-off analyses have generalization potential, choosing between landscape analyses and scaled tools, and defining success measures.
  • Direct a working team spanning Data Science and Engineering day to day, set the roadmap and sequence work based on business impact, coordinate with functional leads on resourcing, and execute against the roadmap with clear links to business impact.
  • Work directly with Data Science and Business Development as strategic partners to translate scientific findings into a scaled roadmap and identify generalization and alpha opportunities.
  • Guide the technical approach for methods being scaled, including statistical validity at exhaustive scale, pipeline design, and dataset evaluation.
  • Work with scientific and technical teams to identify opportunities for AI to impact the asset acquisition and diligence process and pitch them to stakeholders with clear explanations of resourcing and business impact.
