Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Aug. 4, 2026 revenue hit $11.5 billion, up 50%, with data center up 107%.
  • Microsoft signed Helios on July 20, 2026, expanding Azure demand and credibility.
  • AMD ended June 27, 2026 with $13.1 billion cash and $5.3 billion operating cash flow.

What critics are saying

  • Export controls still block MI308 and constrain MI325 China shipments, freezing revenue this year.
  • Nvidia dominates AI accelerators, while Google, AWS, and Meta build custom silicon, crushing AMD pricing.
  • If Helios and MI400 miss ramp targets, AMD loses its existential AI credibility.

What makes AMD unique

  • Helios and MI400 target rack-scale AI, not single-chip selling.
  • AMD pairs EPYC Venice CPUs with Instinct GPUs across Azure, OpenAI, Oracle, and Meta.
  • ROCm-enabled systems won multi-cloud adoption for inference, especially Microsoft's Azure and Meta's Llama workloads.

AMD vs. Salesforce: Which tech stock is the better buy in 2026?

Advanced Micro Devices and Salesforce are both pivoting heavily towards artificial intelligence, making them key players in the technology sector. AMD designs high-performance computing products for data centres and gaming, benefiting from partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic. In the fiscal year ended 27 December 2025, AMD's revenue reached nearly $34.6 billion, representing growth of approximately 34.3% year over year. Net income was roughly $4.3 billion, with a net margin of nearly 12.5%. Free cash flow reached close to $6.7 billion. Salesforce provides a unified platform for managing customer relationships. The company recently completed its acquisition of Informatica and reached a definitive agreement to acquire Fin to enhance its AI agent capabilities.

AMD stock falls 4% as hyperscalers' custom AI chips threaten $6.7B data centre revenue growth

Advanced Micro Devices shares fell nearly 4% to $465 on Wednesday, even as the broader Nasdaq rebounded. The chip maker reported strong second-quarter results, with data-centre revenue surging 107% to $6.7 billion, representing roughly 58% of total sales. However, investors remain cautious as competition intensifies in the AI chip market. Nvidia maintains dominance whilst hyperscalers like Google increasingly develop custom silicon, reducing reliance on merchant chips. Valuation concerns also weigh on the stock. According to GuruFocus, AMD trades 71.55% above its fair value estimate of $272.45. Whilst the company's growth story remains robust, the current share price appears to demand significant future performance to justify present levels.

Cerebras unveils CS-4 AI system with OpenAI and AMD partnerships for faster inference

Cerebras Systems has launched its CS-4 AI system, promising up to twice the token-generation speed of its predecessor, six times higher system-level performance, and up to 10 times more tokens per watt in certain applications. The company announced partnerships with OpenAI and AMD to enhance inference capabilities. The AMD collaboration features a split architecture where GPUs handle model prefill whilst Cerebras manages token decoding. Cerebras is expanding its data-centre capacity, with 600 megawatts of power expected online or under contract by the end of next year. The company is targeting AI-agent, design, coding, and cybersecurity applications that benefit from lower latency. CEO Andrew Feldman emphasised that inference speed has become a product-level consideration. Cerebras hardware powers OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast mode, which runs models at up to 14 times standard speed.

AMD stock soars 125% in 2026 despite trading at 124x earnings — more expensive than Nvidia

AMD shares have surged around 125% in 2026, but the chipmaker's valuation has reached concerning levels compared to rival Nvidia. AMD trades at 124 times trailing earnings versus Nvidia's 31 times, despite slower growth rates. Using 2027 projections, AMD still trades at 34 times earnings whilst Nvidia sits at 17.5 times forward earnings. AMD's Q2 data centre revenue grew 107% year-on-year, but Nvidia achieved 92% growth in its fiscal Q1 and may surpass AMD's rate when it reports results in late August. AMD's diversified business model has resulted in slower overall revenue and earnings growth than Nvidia, despite similar operations in AI infrastructure. The valuation disparity suggests AMD would need 18 months of growth to reach reasonable levels if shares remained flat.

AMD $10K investment returned $724K in a decade vs S&P 500's $42K as revenue grew 10-fold to $41B

Advanced Micro Devices delivered a 7,000% return over the past decade, turning a $10,000 investment into approximately $724,000, compared to $42,000 from the S&P 500. The chipmaker's revenue grew from $4.3 billion in 2016 to $41.3 billion over the past 12 months, driven primarily by its data centre business. In the second quarter of 2026, AMD's data centre revenue more than doubled year over year to $6.7 billion, representing 58% of total company revenue. The stock's rise came from revenue growth, a shift from losses to profits, and expanded market valuation. However, the journey included volatility. Shares dropped 55% in 2022 alone. At its current $800 billion market value and trading at 124 times earnings, future returns will depend on continued earnings growth rather than valuation expansion.
