SUSE and Fujitsu launch hybrid quantum and AI stack on sovereign infrastructure

SUSE and Fujitsu are partnering to bring hybrid quantum and AI computing into enterprise data centres. The platform combines SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA AI Enterprise and the NVIDIA CUDA-Q platform, running on Fujitsu servers. It is due in late 2026. The companies say the stack lets system administrators, cloud architects, and platform engineering teams manage quantum workloads with familiar IT tools, without specialist quantum physics skills. It treats quantum circuits as extensions of SUSE AI Factory workloads. Data stays on-premises or within private infrastructure, which gives customers control over residency and security. Buyers also get pre-validated reference architectures and a single support contract for hardware and software. "AI handles the heavy lifting behind the scenes," said Thomas Di Giacomo, SUSE's chief technology and product officer.

Suse Software Solutions to explore employee experience at Employee Benefits Live 2026.

Suse Software Solutions to explore employee experience at Employee Benefits Live 2026. Hayley Blake (pictured above), director - employee engagement and wellbeing at Suse Software Solutions, will present a session on employee experience at Employee Benefits Live 2026. Her session, titled 'Reimagining the employee experience for longer, successful careers, will take place on Wednesday 14 October at 12pm. The presentation will be focused on Suse's Futureselves Discovery programme, which is a targeted, six-month development initiative for employees aged 50 and above. "It hones in on looking to the future, giving our more mature people the skills, tools and space to identify their goals and plan for their future, whether that might be exploring career development, personal goals, and aligning their personal and professional futures," Blake said. She will also cover the purpose, concept and goals of the programme, why the organisation focused on this demographic, the pillars and delivery of modules, building community, and the outcome and future. Blake hopes attendees will learn how investing in later career talent drives engagement and motivation for a continued successful career, and the importance of recognising the value of driving inclusion for sometimes overlooked groups of employees. "I hope people take away an understanding of the Futureselves principles and how they might use those principles to run a similar programme, and that by widening the net beyond a usual pool of high performing talent, the result can be highly experienced and knowledgeable people with a renewed sense of purpose and motivation," she said. Employee Benefits Live 2026 will take place on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October 2026 at Excel London. The event will provide benefits and HR professionals with the opportunity to learn and develop from industry figures. New for 2026 are four themed stages focusing on whole person wellbeing, future of work, employee experience and engagement, and better benefits, smarter spend.

SUSE offers 'voluntary separation' to long-serving staff as business reshapes

SUSE has introduced a voluntary separation programme for eligible employees as part of efforts to align its business structure with strategic priorities, The Register has confirmed. Multiple sources said the Linux vendor approached long-serving staff, particularly those with over ten years at the company. Lisa Sherwell, People, Strategy and Transformation Executive, contacted employees with the offer following an online company meeting. A SUSE representative stated participation is voluntary with no predefined targets, highlighting industry-leading staff retention rates of 6 per cent in core operational areas. The programme follows unionisation of SUSE's Czech employees earlier this year, who formed the SUSE Workers Union as part of the Czech ICT Union. There is no evidence linking the two developments. The changes coincide with modifications to SUSE's distribution, including removal of longstanding tools in openSUSE Leap 16.

Government seeks consultation on the future of AI in Australia.

Government seeks consultation on the future of AI in Australia. Monday, 21 September, 2026 The Australian Government has announced it is seeking feedback on the future of artificial intelligence (AI) training and large data centres in Australia. The government believes AI has the potential to transform its economy, create new opportunities for businesses and workers, strengthen research and innovation, and improve the way Australians live and work, and that the country is well placed to seize this opportunity, with a highly skilled workforce, world-class research capability and a strong track record of attracting investment in digital infrastructure. The Australian Government wants to build on these strengths and ensure Australia is an attractive destination for investment in the infrastructure needed to support the next generation of AI. The government has announced it is holding a public consultation to better understand how Australia can help build the digital infrastructure and technologies that will shape its future while managing their impacts responsibly. The consultation topics include: * energy use and renewable energy requirements * sustainable water use * community engagement and project locations * impacts on infrastructure and community * developing workforce skills and training * thresholds for applying requirements to different types of data centres. Feedback will help inform future decision making and advice to government. Whether you have technical expertise, industry experience, or an interest in how AI infrastructure may affect your community, the government is encouraging participation. This consultation is one of several ways the government is gathering feedback. Responses received through the submission form will be considered alongside targeted stakeholder engagement and ongoing work with Commonwealth, state and territory governments. Together, the feedback will help inform the development of Australia's AI Standards. The consultation period is already open and closes at 5 pm AEDT, Friday 9 October. The consultation paper can be found here, and submissions can be made here.
