Requirements
  • Formal education or training in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, NCSO, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in a safety role within a construction environment
  • Experience working in the ICI construction industry, specifically dealing with Building Envelope is considered an asset
  • Experience with injury management an asset
  • Bilingual English/French a strong asset
  • Knowledge of the COR and/or ISO 45001 is considered a strong asset
  • Good knowledge of Construction regulations of Atlantic provinces, and Fall Protection legislation
  • Knowledge and practical experience in accident investigation
  • Strong ability in using a computer with high proficiency in Windows applications; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Team attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Willingness to travel
  • Valid driver’s license required
Responsibilities
  • Manage the safety requirements of operational construction sites and equipment
  • Conduct safety inspections of Flynn project sites
  • Ensure that subcontractors adhere to required safety standards in accordance with legislation and Flynn policies
  • Identify potential risks and safety hazards during a project through involvement throughout the job life cycle (estimate, pre-mobilization, and construction)
  • Perform accident and incident investigations
  • Maintain a conducive working relationship with all management, superintendents, project managers, and frontline workers, through education, coaching, advising and giving practical on-site application options
  • Assist with the communication and implementation of the company’s claims management and return-to-work programs
  • Participate in the development and implementation of safety training programs
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and other required training programs as needed
  • Write reports and maintain all required documentation
  • Attend and facilitate monthly safety committee meetings as required
  • Frequent visits to job sites and branches in Atlantic Canada
