Requirements
  • Up to eighteen months of education or training beyond the high school level in nursing or a related field of study.
  • Hold a license for practical nursing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Graduate from an accredited program.
  • Have a minimum of 6–12 months of nursing experience.
  • Have reliable transportation for frequent travel between work sites.
  • Be able to work with occasional exposure to the threat of bodily harm from clients and their families and routine but limited exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
  • Follow policies and procedures related to safety management and Joint Commission standards.
Responsibilities
  • Administer and oversee self-administered and prescribed medications according to established schedules and medical orders.
  • Monitor clients’ vital signs and other physical health information and maintain accurate records, including treatment results.
  • Administer injectable medications at the prescribed dosage and time, educate clients about side-effect management, and obtain prescription or medication preauthorization from the pharmacy when needed.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation related to care, medications, client services, and advocacy, including staff notes, case reviews, letters, and reports.
  • Maintain client medical records and charts related to admissions and discharges.
  • Transcribe medical provider orders and obtain requested medical information about clients.
  • Administer pregnancy tests and drug screens and document the results as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts of medicines and medical supplies and ensure timely ordering of replacements.
  • Schedule clients’ outside medical appointments as ordered by the medical provider.
  • Monitor medical equipment and testing according to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments standards.
  • Participate on a team with physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, and Registered Nurses to manage the flow of medication-management clinics.
