Requirements
  • Experience commissioning new-construction buildings.
  • Experience with retro-commissioning and energy conservation measure determination.
  • Knowledge of building HVAC, plumbing, and power systems.
  • An ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Understanding of and experience with a variety of HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards.
  • Familiarity with International Code Council building, mechanical, and green energy codes.
  • Strong report-writing, computer, and internet skills.
  • Strong communication and management skills.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to complete assignments on time and within budget.
  • Ability to use ladders, scaffolding, and other vertical support systems during construction inspections.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and stand for several hours at a time.
  • Ability to use software programs to monitor, update, and produce work products using computer literacy.
  • Ability to exercise good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to see, hear, walk, drive, climb, reach, stoop, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in construction-site conditions including noise, dust, heights, odors, enclosed spaces, unstable footing, stairs, rough terrain, adverse weather, ladders, and roofs.
  • Physical ability to take measurements, perform tests comparing in-place work to contract requirements, and observe work activities throughout construction.
  • Work status eligibility is required, along with passing a federal government background check.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct commissioning and retro-commissioning energy audits.
  • Provide limited HVAC and mechanical design assistance services for a variety of property types.
  • Perform functional testing and building inspections for air handling units, chilled water systems, hot water systems, steam systems, power distribution, plumbing, and emergency systems.
  • Perform building test and balance activities, use flow hoods, calibrate control-system sensors, and use other calibrated testing instruments.
  • Adapt commissioning work to different property types and HVAC systems.
Desired Qualifications
  • Commissioning certification such as CxA, CCP, or NEBB.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Engineer-in-Training credential with commissioning certification.
