Requirements
  • Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, or vocational/technical education in a related discipline, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with CNC programming.
  • Experience performing manual inspections using classic manual inspection gauges.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawings.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Must be able to lift 28 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced machining operations on mills, lathes, and other shop equipment, independently determining methods and sequencing for daily work and new assignments.
  • Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures based on practical knowledge, including when formal engineering drawings are unavailable.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to bring prototypes from concept to finished part and perform repair machining to restore essential production equipment.
  • Evaluate and verify part quality using established inspection controls and measurement tools while adhering to safety standards, company policies, and industrial regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of machining techniques and best practices in a high-mix environment where priorities shift daily.
  • Review mechanical setups and execute production cycles on mills, shears, press brakes, bandsaws, lathes, and CNC machines.
  • Program and operate CNC equipment, including automated lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
  • Design, fabricate, and modify custom tools, jigs, and fixtures based on hands-on experience and practical problem-solving, without reliance on formal engineering drawings, to address production challenges and improve workflow.
  • Control and optimize machine settings to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Operate and inspect machinery across multiple areas, conducting quality inspections in accordance with mechanical standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate of Applied Science in Machine Tool Technology or equivalent technical education.
  • Formal welding experience or training, including the ability to read and interpret welding specifications, drawings, weld symbols, procedures, and associated technical documentation, and perform basic welding tasks as required.
  • Experience using Virtual Gibbs to program 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machines.
  • Experience using ProE and Common PDM to retrieve CAD models.
  • Experience using Renishaw probes and macros for machine setup and tool compensation.
  • Experience planning and building holding fixtures for hog-outs and castings.
  • Experience selecting cutting tools, feeds, and speeds for machining aluminum and various stainless steels.
  • Experience using Brown & Sharpe and Micro height inspection tools.
  • Experience editing Fanuc controls and working with GibbsCam, MasterCam, SolidWorks, or similar programming software.
  • Experience planning, programming, machining, deburring, and inspecting parts in a rapid-response environment.

RTX's Raytheon secures $24.4B contract for SM-6 interceptors

Raytheon, an RTX business, has secured a five-year contract worth up to $24.4 billion for Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) interceptors. The contract includes two additional option years. The agreement ensures a consistent supply of SM-6s for the US Navy. The missile can conduct offensive strikes and missile defense missions. Raytheon President Phil Jasper said the company is focused on meeting demand through operational investments and facility improvements. The firm has expanded its workforce, strengthened partnerships across the defence industrial base, and automated production to boost output. SM-6 is the only combat-proven weapon capable of performing anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare, and ballistic missile defence. It can be fired from various Navy ship-based platforms and land-based launchers.

United Airlines receives first GTF Advantage-powered A321XLR from RTX's Pratt & Whitney

United Airlines has received its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney's GTF Advantage engines, marking the inaugural delivery of this enhanced engine variant. The GTF Advantage offers up to twice the operational lifespan of current GTF engines and provides 4-8% more takeoff thrust, enabling extended range capabilities. The engine features an advanced hot section design and remains fully compatible with existing GTF models, simplifying fleet operations. Pratt & Whitney, an RTX business, plans to transition its entire PW1100G-JM production line to the Advantage specification by 2028. Current GTF operators will be able to access 90-95% of the Advantage's durability improvements through a Hot Section Plus upgrade option, available from early next year during scheduled maintenance visits.

Pratt & Whitney invests $25M to expand Poland manufacturing, adding 120 jobs

RTX's Pratt & Whitney is investing $25 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Niepołomice, Poland. The site produces complex tubular assemblies for commercial and military engines. The expansion, supported by the Polish government through the Polish Investment Zone Programme, will add more than 120 jobs when it becomes operational in 2028. The facility currently manufactures precision components for multiple engine types, including the GTF engine for commercial aircraft and the F135 for F-35 fighter aircraft. This investment is part of Pratt & Whitney's $125 million commitment to Polish facilities this year, including a $100 million investment in Rzeszow. Poland represents RTX's largest investment base outside the United States, with more than 9,500 employees across its businesses in-country.

RTX's $289 billion backlog splits 60% commercial aerospace and 40% defence, a combination that benefits both divisions. The commercial segment's strong profitability allows the defence business to avoid risky fixed-price development contracts that have troubled competitors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. This flexibility enabled RTX to terminate an unfavourable classified programme in 2024, taking a $575 million charge rather than pursuing losses. CEO Chris Calio said the contract fell outside the company's core competencies and predated RTX's formation. The arrangement works both ways. Defence earnings supported RTX through a costly powder metal coating issue affecting its geared turbofan engine. The structure allows RTX to focus on established defence solutions like Patriot missiles whilst maintaining investment in commercial aerospace during downturns.

RTX's Raytheon wins $22.9B contract to accelerate Tomahawk missile production

Raytheon, an RTX business, has secured a seven-year, $22.9 billion contract from the US Navy to accelerate production of Tomahawk cruise missiles. The agreement, part of the Department of War's Arsenal of Freedom initiative, will support ramping annual production to over 1,000 missiles. RTX has already tripled Tomahawk deliveries in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The contract will enable the company to expand capacity and work with hundreds of suppliers nationwide to scale output. Tomahawk cruise missiles provide long-range strike capabilities, allowing the Navy to target hostile forces from hundreds of miles away across multiple launch platforms.
