Requirements
  • Seven years of backend engineering experience, with at least two years managing or technically leading a team.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with identity and authentication systems; you've built or operated SAML, OIDC, and SCIM integrations in production and can reason about security and user experience tradeoffs.
  • Strong product sense for business-to-business software-as-a-service; you understand self-serve and enterprise motions and can design systems that serve both without forked codebase.
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills; you can reason about indexes, query plans, multi-tenant data models, and migrations without consulting tutorials.
  • Experience with billing and metering systems, and an appreciation for how much edge-case logic lives in invoicing, proration, and high-volume event ingestion.
  • Experience hiring senior individual contributors and giving direct, useful feedback.
  • Comfortable being an individual contributor on the team you manage; we don't want a manager who has stopped writing code.
  • Experience scaling a foundations or platform team from a small group to 10+ engineers.
  • Background at a business-to-business software-as-a-service company that sold to enterprise (Fortune 500 procurement and security review experience helps).
  • Familiarity with WorkOS or similar identity platforms.
  • Experience designing audit and activity log systems that meet enterprise compliance requirements (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Experience standing up admin and internal tooling that engineering doesn't have to babysit.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Foundations roadmap, partnering with the CTO, Head of Engineering, and product leadership on priorities
  • Hire and develop a team of 4 to 8 engineers, including running interview loops, calibrating performance, and setting expectations clearly
  • Drive technical decisions on hard problems: authorization models that work across account types, identity provider integrations for enterprise customers, billing and metering logic that handles edge cases without breaking, audit systems that scale, and admin tooling that grows with the company
  • Ship code yourself on the highest-leverage parts of the system
  • Be the engineering point of contact for enterprise customers when SSO, SCIM, or provisioning issues escalate
  • Represent Foundations in conversations with sales, customer success, finance, and the executive team when identity, billing, or audit decisions affect commitments
Desired Qualifications
  • None

From SEO to agent-led growth: Profound's James Cadwallader on marketing's biggest shift

Profound CEO James Cadwallader argues that marketing is experiencing its biggest platform shift, as AI agents replace human consumers browsing the internet. The company, which serves 12% of the Fortune 500, helps marketers understand and improve how they appear in AI search results across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Cadwallader explains that agents consume vastly more web content than humans—citing 65 webpages for a single showerhead query versus the traditional top four search results. Different AI platforms show distinct preferences: Gemini favours YouTube content, ChatGPT pulls from Reddit for consumer queries and LinkedIn for B2B, whilst Claude increasingly relies on real-time web information. The key shift isn't the interface, but who's using it. Marketers must now create content for "superintelligent agents with infinite bandwidth" rather than humans, requiring original insights that AI cannot derive from existing data.

Avenue Z and Profound debut AI Search breakthrough at SXSW 2026. Avenue Z will co-lead a featured SXSW 2026 workshop with Profound, the full-stack marketing platform for the era of AI Search. By Samantha Soskin Mar 9, 2026 Avenue Z, the hybrid agency pioneering AI Search Optimization (AEO), has been selected to co-lead a featured workshop at SXSW 2026 with Profound, the marketing platform built for the era of AI Search. The session also marks the official debut of Profound's proprietary AEO Audit technology, integrated with Avenue Z's end-to-end AI Search Optimization solution - pairing Profound's data infrastructure with Avenue Z's PR, performance media, content, and technical optimization to deliver measurable impact in weeks, not months. "AI Search is the biggest platform shift in the history of marketing, said James Cadwallader, Co-founder and CEO of Profound. This SXSW selection caps a milestone year for Avenue Z, which was recently named to ADWEEK's 2026 AI Power 50 for developing the industry's first comprehensive AEO solution for brands. As Avenue Z CEO Jeffrey Herzog notes, the firm was built to lead clients at the intersection of Search and AI, and partnering with Profound to launch this breakthrough technology at SXSW reinforces that mission, giving brands the power to shape how they're understood and recommended in AI-powered environments. If you'd like to attend the interactive workshop, registration is now open to SXSW Innovation Conference attendees here. Optimize your brand's visibility in AI Search.
