Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent amount of experience is required.
  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience with strong backend development expertise is required.
  • Strong Node.js experience is required.
  • Solid experience operating production systems in Amazon Web Services, including Elastic Container Service, Lambda, Simple Storage Service, Relational Database Service/Postgres, and CloudWatch, is required.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, containerization, observability, and incident response, is required.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code is required, with Terraform strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with relational databases, particularly Postgres, including performance troubleshooting and data integrity, is required.
  • Strong communication skills and an ownership mindset are required, along with the ability to lead technical decisions and mentor others.
  • The role requires experience leading and developing an engineering team, providing day-to-day direction, prioritizing workloads, conducting technical reviews, coaching team members, and supporting performance management and career growth.
Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve backend application programming interface services built with Node.js and NestJS running on Amazon Web Services Elastic Container Service.
  • Design and implement event-driven patterns using Kafka through Amazon Web Services Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka, and implement caching with Redis.
  • Support and enhance file ingestion pipelines using Simple Storage Service, Lambda, schedulers, and Python or Node.js components.
  • Maintain and improve data synchronization workloads, including Amazon Web Services Batch and Lambda scheduled jobs, while ensuring correctness and recoverability.
  • Lead and participate in on-call and incident response, including post-incident root-cause analyses and preventive improvements.
  • Improve continuous integration and continuous delivery and engineering quality using GitHub Actions, Jest, performance testing such as k6, and static analysis and security scanning such as SonarQube and Veracode.
  • Manage infrastructure changes through Terraform, including networking such as network load balancers, observability, and runtime configuration.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and partner teams on requirements, service-level agreements, and release planning.
  • Drive structured knowledge transfer with the vendor team through architecture deep dives, incident walkthroughs, and deployment procedures.
  • Build and maintain runbooks, support playbooks, and troubleshooting guides for application programming interfaces, ingestion, and synchronization processes.
  • Establish internal operational practices covering alert tuning, dashboards, on-call processes, escalation paths, and post-incident root-cause-analysis discipline.
  • Identify and reduce vendor dependencies, including scripts, access, and undocumented procedures, so the internal team can operate independently.
  • Support a parallel-run period in which internal engineers progressively take ownership of L1, L2, and L3 support, with the vendor as fallback.
Desired Qualifications
  • NestJS experience is preferred.
  • Experience with event streaming or messaging, particularly Kafka or Amazon Web Services Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka, is preferred.
  • Python experience for ingestion tooling or serverless components is preferred.
  • Experience with regulated or financial data flows, reconciliation, or integration platforms is preferred.
  • Experience hardening systems for reliability through idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues, and backpressure is preferred.
