Requirements
  • A BS/BA degree in Business Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Interest or past work in merchandising or buying is required.
  • A solid understanding of retail operations, relationship sales skills, business fundamentals, merchandising strategies, and assortment planning is required.
  • Knowledge of neighborhood hardware store business-to-business and do-it-yourself customers is required.
  • Refined written and verbal interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic business environment is required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • The ability to work independently and remain highly self-motivated is required.
  • Familiarity with modern marketing techniques across electronic, digital, and social media platforms is required.
  • The ability to successfully lead teams, supported by strong project management skills, is required.
  • An analytical, customer-focused, and business-minded approach is required.
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365 programs, including Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, including charts, VLOOKUP, data manipulation, and macro execution, is required.
  • The ability to travel as required is necessary.
  • The ability to stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, and climb is required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead category development for Impulse, Consumables, Toys, Stationery, and Holiday.
  • Develop quality product assortments that drive sales and profitable growth in key categories, leveraging Ace planograms, assortments, and fixture presentations where possible.
  • Provide strategic direction for advertising and marketing initiatives to drive sales and transaction growth.
  • Identify localized opportunities to ensure merchandise assortments meet the needs of varied consumer bases, including business-to-business, do-it-yourself, rural, and urban customers.
  • Support assortment planning, pre-season ordering, and vendor management in conjunction with the Merchandising Manager.
  • Analyze and monitor sales, trends, and economic conditions within assigned categories to anticipate consumer buying patterns.
  • Monitor competitors' sales activities, product assortments, and pricing through daily and weekly print and electronic advertisements and store visits.
  • Manage financial key performance indicators for assigned categories, including sales, net margin, sell-through, and gross margin return on investment, and develop semiannual forecasts to support senior management planning.
  • Negotiate costs, discounts, rebates, Vendor Partnership Program terms, and freight terms for assigned categories.
  • Establish and maintain strategic supplier relationships that align suppliers, products, and services with business needs.
  • Collaborate with inventory management to determine demand forecasts for everyday and promotional opportunities.
  • Attend trade shows to identify product opportunities and strengthen business relationships.
  • Define and implement departmental strategic objectives through short- and long-term plans.
  • Own accountability and execution for the assigned product category line review process.
  • Present merchandising strategies effectively to gain buy-in and engagement across the organization.
  • Serve as project manager for merchandising-driven initiatives supporting key categories.
  • Collaborate with Store Operations to understand market and customer needs.
  • Collaborate with Inventory Management to ensure optimal in-stock levels and exit strategies.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Visual Merchandising to improve in-store presentation, point-of-purchase materials, and marketing strategies.
  • Develop working relationships with Ace counterparts to leverage product assortments and customer research and advance strategic category initiatives.
