  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to the job and four years of related experience, or equivalent experience substitution for up to four years of education.

  • Knowledge of leading architecture practices and critical architecture deliverables.
  • Knowledge of system development life cycle methodologies, including waterfall, spiral, agile software development, rapid prototyping, and incremental development.
  • Knowledge of architecture governance forums, domain-specific processes, procedures, supporting activities, and risks.
  • Knowledge of computer science, information technology standards and controls, technology frameworks, and technology trends.
  • Knowledge of architecture methodologies such as SABSA, Zachman, and TOGAF, and modeling languages such as Unified Modeling Language and ArchiMate.
  • Knowledge and experience designing conceptual and logical designs and translating work between different levels of abstraction.
  • Knowledge of development languages including Java, Go, Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Knowledge of database technologies including MySQL, MongoDB, and Oracle.
  • Ability to lead financial analysis, architecture evaluation, solution delivery orchestration, project management, road mapping, risk management, interdependency management, agile methodologies, information security, cloud computing infrastructure, and data architecture.
  • Ability to apply multiple technical solutions to enable future-state business capabilities and targeted business outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams and lead cross-functional teams while working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to comply with change management and information security policies and procedures.
  • A valid Texas driver's license or the ability to acquire one by the hire date, along with the required driver record evaluation.
  • Ability to meet the position's criminal and NERC background investigation requirements.
  • A valid U.S. work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
  • Develop the vision, strategy, conceptual and logical designs, roadmaps, and other architectural deliverables for the domain area.
  • Define the principles that guide enterprise technology decisions within the domain.
  • Design technical architecture based on business requirements and IT strategies, and rectify gaps and pain points in the current state.
  • Work on high-level projects and ensure processes align with domain-focused and business architecture strategies.
  • Guide project team members in implementing the architecture.
  • Lead technology strategy, migration, integration, and evolution of the technical infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to align domain architectures and activities with broader enterprise architecture and strategy.
  • Lead technical and business discussions about future architecture direction.
  • Analyze the current technology environment to identify critical deficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Lead evaluation and selection of technologies and products and design standard configurations for the domain.
  • Lead and facilitate the domain architecture governance process.
  • Provide expert operational and hands-on support for network infrastructure, including configuration, installation, maintenance, patching, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of firewalls, load balancers, routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, cloud networking, DNS, and VPNs.
  • Design, implement, manage, and maintain complex, secure, and reliable network infrastructure.
  • Document and troubleshoot network components and recommend new technologies and solutions.
  • Administer and build network security systems.
  • Administer routing and switching, logging and security event analysis, and firewalls.
  • Lead security patch assessments, quarterly cyber access reviews, and verification of electronic access privileges.
  • Administer modeling software and review business rules for access.
  • Troubleshoot advanced systems, topologies, and storage and support critical customers in a utility environment.
  • Provide collaborative input to infrastructure planning and design.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Travel to multiple work locations and participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24-hour utility operations.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, procedures, standards, and applicable regulatory standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Expert experience implementing, operating, managing, monitoring, documenting, and troubleshooting complex networks.
  • Experience with Cisco Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches.
  • Experience with BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VXLAN, and BGP EVPN routing technologies.
  • Experience with next-generation firewalls, preferably Palo Alto.
  • Experience with multi-campus wireless networks, preferably Cisco.
  • Experience with RADIUS, TACACS, multifactor authentication administration, and Cisco Identity Services Engine.
  • Experience with A10 load balancers.
  • Experience with DNS platforms such as Infoblox or BIND.
  • Intermediate or expert experience automating work processes with scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of regulatory controls and standards including NERC, CIP, OSHA, FISMA, SOX, and NIST.
  • Experience creating and maintaining network documentation.
  • Experience communicating network infrastructure content to various stakeholders.
  • Preferred certifications include CCNA, CCNP, PCNSE, and PCNSA.

Austin Water secures $55M low-interest funding for pipe replacement and infrastructure projects

Austin Water has secured $55 million in low-interest funding from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas for capital improvement projects. The first tranche of $13 million carries an interest rate as low as 2.895%, expected to save upwards of $1.5 million in interest over the 20-year loan period. The funding will primarily replace ageing polybutylene pipes, with $45 million allocated to address water loss from pipes installed until the mid-1980s, saving an estimated $2.7 million in financing costs. An additional $10 million will expand the reclaimed water infrastructure through the Travis Heights Purple Pipe project, connecting two service areas whilst saving approximately $1.1 million. Combined with a recent debt defeasance transaction saving $49.6 million, Austin Water's cumulative savings since 2016 now exceed $675 million.
